I was troubleshooting another issue when I broke my idle adjust cable. I ordered a new one and installed it today. I reset the TPS, took it up to 5.5 and the bike won't start. It almost turned over once, but otherwise just clicks. I thought maybe the battery was low, let it get up to 12v on the trickle charger and same result - almost turned over, a single backfire in the intake, puff of smoke, then starter clicks.

Now when I turn it on and set the switch to run, the pump primes then the CEL flashes at me, too fast to count, but a number of times, then pauses, then repeats. I plugged in ECMspy to draw the codes and no codes show. I cleared the codes, CEL still flashes when I set the switch to run.

Right now I'm letting it sit on the charger until it hits 14v and try again.

Any other suggestions?

How did you get the idle cable on the throttle body? There is NO room to reach in there. Any tips would be helpful!

2003-2007 ALL XB IDLE ADJUSTER KNOB CABLE is zip-tied to tiny loop on left side frame spar. To install NEW:

Remove left side factory air cooling scoop
Loosen VR harness pinch clamps if so installed
Remove airbox cover
Remove airbox lid assembly
Remove airbox base plate QTY 4 #27 TORX screws---set base plate aside
Above exposes entire TB assembly
Feed in new idle adjuster cable and thread into TB socket for same. PUT A FEW DROPS of light oil on cable threaded end prior to installation. Makes threading into TB much easier and quicker.

You're welcome.
