Just got a 2006 XB12X. Boy, it is tall. A lot taller than my XB9S. I have to stand on the left side foot peg to get my grumpy old legs over the seat. I had to replace both knees a few years ago so my range of motion isn't what it used to be. What I'm wondering is how stout the mounting bracket is for the side stand. Is my standing on the foot peg going to be a problem seeing that I weigh 230lbs. Once I'm on the bike I have to use only my right leg to hold the bike up at stops. Too tall for both feet to hit the ground. I can't use a lower seat because it makes my knees bend more than they want.
 
The side stand and braket are more than capable of supporting the weight of a rider. It would behoove you to look at it. Make sure the mounting bolts, bracket, and pivot are tight and in good shape.
 
There is a fair amount of play where the pivot pin goes through the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the engine. Makes for sloppy swing out. Doesn't go all the way to full extension unless I use my foot for the last few inches. I'm thinking that hole for the pin is now egg shaped. Tried to find a new one but no luck. Saw some used side stand assemblies but I'm reluctant. Don't think its a real problem just annoying.
 
If you're going to mount the bike like that, you may also want to replace the bolts securing the side stand to the case with studs and a lot of locktite. Those bolts are known to loosen over time and I'd hate to see that fail with your 230lbs of might all on the stand assembly.
 
Good idea on the studs. Looks like I'll have take the muffler off to get decent access to the bolts. Just discovered today that my new to me Uly has a race ECM. In the parts box that came with the bike was a Drummer modified stock muffler. Had zero packing left in it. Not sure what to stuff it with. Muffler on there now is a stock one but there is no cable going from the actuator down to the muffler. I'm thinking there will be a noticeable difference in power with the Drummer. Felt kinda flat in the midrange.
 
Before you go crazy, you really need to pull the map info down and see what is in the box. All the ECM's are the same (for a given part number) - it's the tune that's loaded into it.

You should also inspect the pipe - there's a good chance a P.O. messed with it, and didn't stop with disconnecting the actuator.

When I bought it, my '08 XT had a modified stock pipe. Someone had cut the end off, removed the guts, and welded a twin outlet cap on it. Bike ran like crap, and it was so obnoxiously loud I put a stock can on it as soon as I could find one!

I have the ECMDroid (rev-mo.com) "Stock Pipe/Race" tune in the bike. It runs great, and, for a V-Twin, it's pretty quiet.
