06 buell xb12r, no start currently
Greetings Y'ALL.... So my introduction to Buell motorcycles started off decent an is beginning to suck more an more each day.
So my father bought an unwanted storage locker, $25. Could see the bike from the door an was intending to give it to me, until he recognized Harley jugs, so now I'm working off paying Dad $1000 for this 06 buell xb12r firebolt with 4406 Miles on it. Checked the vin, I learned it was totaled for comprehensive insurance in 2010, but not stolen so I can work with this.
Took a few hours to get it running, would idle perfectly, but wouldn't move! Messing with the clutch adjustment, when it finally felt like it was thinking about rolling forward a bit the bike wouldn't stay running. Had the clutch basket out 3 times before I came to the conclusion the previous owner is an idiot, an that really concerns me since I'm not sure how far into it the previous owner got. I Ordered a cheap, an I mean the cheapest clutch an plate set on the whole Internet. I got it for $47.71. (I'll get a better one once I know the bike is fully functional). And At this time I've had the fuel pump out at least a dozen times, it's finally I believe right. The pump itself had been replaced, I replaced the fuel filter.
Once I got the clutches installed yesterday, test ride, there have been 3 of these, all have resulted in me pushing the bike back. The first an second rides were 1 block. The 3rd I made it 3 blocks.
I finally got a test ride for 6 blocks round trip. Bike ran like it was outta gas. Put 3 gallons in it once back home, and it hasn't even tried to start since. No spark, coil tests good. The ECM says for race use only. IDK if aftermarket ECM are any good.
Oh an there is no neutral. I tested the Switch its bad for it but there is no neutral. Pull clutch in that's neutral, otherwise it's always in a gear. I am really starting to not like the bike. Fuses are all good. I probably explained this all out of order an y'all gonna have trouble understanding where I'm at. Oh an I'm also on that autism spectrum.
The bike is mostly stripped like for a track. But almost functional. Each time I get it functional it breaks a different way. I'm almost broke, an it having Harley anything is not making parts cheaper....
So I need to know, what to check next to make the bike produce spark again. Coil is good. Wires are good. Plugs are functional.
Oh an under the headlights up front, previous idiot had all kinda crimp connections. I removed all of it an color matched the wires an soldered all back together. I had to add wires to the headlights work again. An wired in the LED taillight with built in blinkers.
The bike has caught on fire twice. First time I put it out with an extinguisher, second time I didn't know until I removed the air filter today an the rubber boot that's attached to the throttle body is disformed and kinda crispy. Is there some kinda safety switch I don't know about? I also have several service manuals, 06,07and the other a lil newer.

Sir: Fueling problems....loss of spark.....multiple wiring dilemmas.....critical components burned...multiple fires....probable drive-line failures to include transmission and clutch assembly. All that plus what you're describing as a "salvage" title and missing necessary componentry to make it viable for street riding. IMO you're attempting to resurrect what YOU have described as a true pile of . Seriously consider walking away from this quagmire. There are some very nice Buell XB models out there at competitive prices with none of the drama and issues you're describing.

The PO was an "idiot" but you have caught it on fire while working on it... twice??
Ya, walk away or take it to a mechanic. This simple machine is well beyond your skill level.
