    Stained Frame

    I now think I have 2 problems.... I filled up with fuel on Sat, when the engine was real hot, about a minute after I put the fuel cap on I noticed petrol dripping down the frame on the left hand side. Later I took off the airbox cover and noticed the tank vent pipe has been cut off quite short...

    I tried one small area with T-Cut, that didn't seem too successful, then I rubbed it over with a rag soaked in engine oil.... The area is now a consistent tone but quite shiny! Not sure I'm going to do the rest of it.

    Mine has the trans vent zipped to the same place too. The staining on the right side is different to the staining on the left, perhaps the left are water stains? Someone must have sorted this somewhere....... surely?

    Its strange, you go for a ride and when you get back the staining is worse! Anyway, I've ordered my grommet (£3.80 due next Thursday) and bought some S100 which they recommended would to remove staining. Didn't work :-( however, they were making a big deal about it being a 'painted' frame and...

    Hello Yorkshirelad. I'm from Yate, near Bristol. I'm going to fix problem first then I'll let you know how I get on with the clean up. I've tried various degreasers, wax type polishes.... someone has suggested evening it out by spraying the frame with wd40! Hmmmm not too sure about that, perhaps...

    Ok, I did the breather mod this afternoon and when I got the airbox off I found oil around the grommet where the crankcase breather goes into the head. Here's a couple of photo's Any one think that this might be the cause of my frame staining?

    I don't think its brake fluid. When bought the bike it had a few stains on the frame only. After a few rides, the stains got worse and appeared on the swinging arm as well :-( I can't find any leaks anywhere, I've not done any brake fluid changes or oil changes. It has to be 'oil misted breather...

    Yep, I've checked the battery and no signs of a leak there. I agree that they seem to be worse after a ride and I also suspect the fan of blowing crank breather air around the shop. I hate it, its making my bike look like a shed :(

    I've checked all around the brake system and there's no leak.... but you've got me worried so I think its off to the dealer this week!

    I need to take a look under the airbox cover, not sure if someone has done a half hearted job of the breather mod - looks like one of the breather pipes is just disconnected and bent in a 'U' to face towards the fan! Thanks for all your comments.

    Hi folks, I've only owned my 1006 XB12S for 3 weeks (last bike was a thunderace) and absolutely love it. I've noticed some staining, kind of like oil streaks, on my frame and swinging arm...... two questions - 1) any idea's what's causing it and 2) how can I clean it off it looks awful. Great...
