    I'd guess his pump gear is shredded and as he's review it it's catching enough to pump the oil at enough of a volume to turn off the light but he's probably destroying the gear while he does it

    ...yes you can. I've tuned my factory race ECM on several different occasions without frying it. Don't try to burn the whole eeprom, only the maps. I believe you are thinking of the EBR ECM, being the one you don't want to screw with.
