    Comfort Kit?

The shock cover on my '08 was broken in half when I bought the bike. PO had duct taped it - which was largely ineffective. I drilled a bunch of holes along the edges, and laced the crack like a football. I'd guess it gets pretty toasty under the seat, even with the fan to move the engine heat...

Doing intake gaskets. First time. What else should I do while I'm there?

Cooter - is that '57 still all over your shop? I'm guessing the photo probably shows only a bit of the 'distribution'.

Doing intake gaskets. First time. What else should I do while I'm there?

Check the rocker box vent valves to ensure they function one-way, and replace the grommets. Very common source of escaped oil down the front and back of the cylinders. Saying that - clean, clean, clean! It's amazing how much crap accumulates in all the nooks and crannies. Pay close attention...

Got my Buelltooth for my '06 Uly. What changes do I need to make?

Cooter, I don't know if the 'tune' for an '06 is different than for my '08, but my fan runs constantly when the bike is going over 15mph, or I sit for an extended period admiring the scenery at one of the many traffic lights. And the fan is readily available on Amazon...

+1 on Barrett #4 - DO NOT overtorque the oil drain (swingarm) drain plug!

Came Across a Uly For Sale

I'd bet the 'oil leak' is coming from one or both crankcase ventilation valves. Old grommets, don'tcha know.

Ulysses broken down - not getting fuel?

You might also check to see if the gas cap is venting. While certainly not the same design as the old (90's) Harley's, I'd think it's possible you could have been drawing a vacuum on the tank.

    Trading down - XB12X to XB9

Ah, but not if you tried one! They're awesome! I love mine - keeps the 'monkeybutt' away! I only use it on road trips - my commute is really short. c3powil, I have the wooden version. The BR site has a sizing chart - a Uly calls for the 13" square one.

    Trading down - XB12X to XB9

Check out a BeadRider(R) seat cover! Years ago I tried a sheepskin cover, and different seats (different bike), and found the BeadRider was far and away the best. https://beadrider.com/product-category/beadrider-motorcycle-seats/

    Easily confused

I was running a Raven 009 with good results. When I changed out, I went with the Shinko 705. They don't make it in the 180/55 (I complained to Shinko USA) - I went with the 170/60. Can't tell a difference in handling, but apparently it make my butt look bigger.

    New XB12X Primary Oil weep?

Normally I fully agree with Cooter - but since it's a 'new-to-you' bike, I'd go with dawiz45 - just put new gaskets (all three of them) in. Heck, replace the shifter shaft o-ring while you're at it!

    Reat wheel removal glitch

I've wondered about the pinch bolt on the rear axle. Mind you, my bike doesn't have one - a PO stripped it out. But, is it necessary? Any bearing failure or other torque on the axle would only act to tighten the bolt - so it's not needed for safety. FWIW, I put a witness mark on the bolt...

    Stator issues

Aftermarket Stator Just FYI, I bought a Cycle Electric Stator CE-0732 for my '08 off Amazon. It's a 2-wire, but I seem to recall they offer a 3-wire as well. The configurator doesn't like it - the stator is for Sportsters, and of course Buell isn't represented. The only difference is the...

    Pulsating front brake rotors

Can you measure the runout (wobble) of the rotor? You can use something like a wire coat hanger ziptied to the fork tube, and bent to where the end just touches the rotor. Spin the wheel and see if you have any wobble. Also, make sure the rotor is clean - use brake cleaner (protect the paint)...

    Rear wheel removal (help)

Following the tightening procedure for the axle bolt is very important! And do not go 'discount' with the bearings, especially if you have the two-bearing wheel.
