Buell xb12xt oil drips unknown area

Two possible sources - the rear valve cover PCV grommet (or the hose connection to the PCV), and the breather hose - up inside where it might be touching the rear exhaust pipe. My '08 had all three. I didn't find the last one until I changed the starter.

    Noob question....

njloco - nice! Note the exhaust can is an oval, not a circular cross-section. As Barrett said, make a pattern using a piece of cardboard to get the profile. Also - before you go crazy with padding or lining, remember you might want to run the engine while the bike is on the stand (not...

    Noob question....

Don't scrimp on the 'height' of the form - you want it to be at least half the thickness of the can. Otherwise the bike might rotate in the form and fall over. Even if you have glued some inner tube in the forms. DAMHIKT.

    Shindengen VR (Used) Alert

eBay Vendor breaking an '06 Ulysses. Listed here is a VR - apparently the breaker doesn't realize it isn't OEM. https://www.ebay.com/itm/363924111190?

    Xb12x cross country

To add to Cooter's advice - I've always tried to use the 'half-tank' rule. I like to stop and stretch and hydrate every half tank. The between-fueling stops are brief, but help keep the monkey-butt and knee pain at bay. Figure that'll equal a stop every hour-ish of riding. It's most helpful...

Starter Engages, but Doesn't Spin Engine

Wow - that fuse block looks nothing like the one in my '08! While I'm here - I read several places about the starter relay should have a diode in it. That may be another model year thing. I pulled the Electrical Diagnostics Manual for my bike, and the wiring schematic shows all four are the...

Starter Engages, but Doesn't Spin Engine

Good to know the alternate numbers! I might replace all of them - they're all probably 14 years old! Minor correction - the XB has four of them - Ignition, Key Switch, Start and Auxiliary. I think I'll rebuild the old starter (if the kits are still available) and have a ready spare.

Starter Engages, but Doesn't Spin Engine

I posted this on Bad Weather Bikers. So, my '08 started acting weird, see subject line. It was acting like maybe the battery had a bad cell. Push starter button, starter hits, then - nothing. Tested the (NOCO Lithium - 7 months old) battery, and it was fine. I figured it must be the starter -...

06 Ulysess xb12x Sputtering and Shooting when Hot

You don't say anything about the condition of the ECM - they are subject to cracking at the connections, and all sorts of weirdness can happen. When I bought my '08, it had a gutted 'stock' exhaust, and an unknown tune. It was stupid loud, and backfired through the exhaust constantly on decel...

    2008 Primary Cover Gasket Set

StPHD has the whole kit: https://st-paul-harley-davidson-buell.myshopify.com/products/25378-02b-new-buell-primary-cover-gasket-kit-06-10-xb-models-25378-02b6?rq=yr_2008~mk_buell~md_ulysses-xb12x~yt_primary-/-gaskets-/-clutch-/-transmission I've got the OEM primary case gasket on mine and it...

Using a 14ah battery in my Ulysses

Or, you can go all 'progressive-like', and put a LiFePO4 battery in it. Much smaller than similar capacity lead-acid batteries. I've put a Noco brand in my '08, and (touch wood!) it seems to be doing fine.

    RPM does not work

While you're rummaging around under the nose fairing, disconnect the ground leads from the steering neck (Ground #4) and inspect them for corrosion, breaks or other damage. That's a common trouble spot - not necessarily your issue, but a good check regardless.

    Twin Motorcycles Dual Exhaust

I'll add my useless $.02. The '08 I bought had a hollowed out can with two nozzles. OMG loud, and backfired even louder. And the bike surged badly at cruising speed. I bought some 'silencer inserts' off Amazon, and stuffed them in - it helped a good bit, but still obnoxious. And still surged...

    New Problem?

I'm guessing Barrett's #3. The butterfly might be sticking, and the cold makes it worse. Give the throttle bore and butterfly a good cleaning, and do what you can to clan the butterfly shaft on both sides. As far as gaskets, try everything else first. You stand a good to better chance of...

    Yuasa Battery - Internal Failure

I've had a Yuasa YTX14H-BS in my '08 Uly since I bought it a couple years ago. The battery was in my '03 Triumph Sprint ST for a very short time - when I bought the Uly, I sold the ST. The Yuasa stayed with me. The Yuasa is rated at 12.6 AH / 240CCA. The original installation date was...

Yeah - get a 1203cc bike in the 'sugar sand' we have down here and things go South quickly.

    PCV Valves

Follow-up... I'm not sure if it's me or if the bike really is running better - but it sure feels more 'spry'!

    PCV 'Alternate'

See my thread in the main forum, but I put a Carquest #PCA 1026 at the end of a five inch longer hose from the rear PCV that is installed in the rocker box cover. That valve failed, and new 'OEM' ones are $35 or more.

    PCV Valves

Cheap Alternate Part Okay - an update. Still outraged by the cost of a 'genuine' replacement part (StPHD - $34 plus $5.66 shipping), I decided to look for a suitable alternate. I found an umbrella/mushroom style valve at Advance Auto Parts. It's a Carquest #PCA 1026. The callout says it's...

Blowing 30A fuse - When Hot or Not?

What Cooter said! The power lead is three feet long - relocating the VR wouldn't make any significant 'electrical' difference. But it (and all other VR's) definitely need cooling air, and a chassis ground in most designs. So the XB's location is probably as good as you can get. Only place...
