Had a good afternoon on the XB

After a 5 or 6 year absence I was able to take a Sunday afternoon ride with my son and a friend. The Buell (and I) made it about 150 miles today. The more I ride the bike the more I like it. At the end of the ride my friend and I switched bikes. Going from the XB to a VTX1800 was not fun. Even...

    Finally for the XB today

It’s just a buzz. No pulsing or any of the other things that go with a warped rotor. Your explanation makes sense. Thanks

    Finally for the XB today

The fan went back in much easier than it came out. Thanks for the tips and other posts on that topic. It ended up much easier than I thought it would be. The front brake is working great after the master cylinder and caliper clean and rebuild. The weird part is everything feels smooth but I can...

No, the problem is more along the lines of my coordination skills being like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQRsArUfywc

Yeah, had the shock out. Getting the rotation started was the problem. Once I got it to start rotating it wasn’t bad. Not sure what my problem was at first.

The service manual say to rotate the fan housing clockwise to remove. They forgot to mention that you had to do this while having 11 cents change in your pocket, humming the first 3 lines of the star spangled banner, holding your right foot in the air and timing it to coincide with sacred...

I think I’m showing my advanced age: could someone give me a link to the thread showing how to get my old fan out? I must be searching for the wrong thing.

    Finally for the XB today

A couple nights ago when I noticed the fan wasn't coming on I checked the fan settings in the ECM Parameters. It was still at a temperature that it should have been running, but it wasn't. I tried turning it on using the active tests. It wouldn't come on then either. Last night I ran through...

    Finally for the XB today

I made a couple short loops and put about 50 miles on the XB today. Bike ran well. I only had it hang at 2K rpm once. I'll try logging with the ECMdroid and see what it shows. I also found out the cooling fan isn't coming on. I did get it to run a week or two ago by forcing it on but it...

Yeah, vintage and antique snowmobiles are a big deal in parts of the northern US & Canada. It's my main hobby and source of "barn filler". A great day with vintage sleds is when you leave AND return a sled to the barn or trailer under its own power.

I used Dot 4. "He's probably referring to the TPS reset instructions on the screen when you press the reset TPS button on ECMDroid" Correct. I used the wrong terminology, my mistake. I noticed the throttle felt "sticky" in spots. I took off the right grip assembly and found this: Evidently...

    Finally for the XB today

This bike has sat for most of the last 6 or 7 years. It's become evident that it has sat outside for at least one of those years. I bought it cheap, so I figured there would be issues. It starts hard when it's cold & I have to move the throttle a little to find the spot that it will fire...

    Finally for the XB today

The brakes are back together. Going to do a couple rounds of bleeding to get the fine bubbles out. Did a TPS reset and took it easy up the rod and back. After I got back I noticed it would rev to about 2K when I pulled the clutch in. I could drop it back to 1K by putting a little drag on the...

    Finally for the XB today

My front master cylinder and caliper rebuild parts arrived from St. Paul HD. While I was waiting for the stuff to arrive I managed to clean up the caliper and master cylinder. While cleaning the master cylinder I found the the teeny vent hole was plugged. I ended up grinding a sewing needed down...

    Finally for the XB today

It actually looks much worse in person than the picture shows. I cleaned out the master cylinder reservoir and ran new fluid through it last weekend. Even though everything ran clear while bleeding it, there was obviously still more in there. In this case the worst of the gunk was in the...

If I would have known how much gunk was in there I wouldn't have run it up the road.

Hales would need to order everything. They’re running about 16 days for delivery at the moment so I ordered from St Paul. Hopefully they have it in stock

    Finally for the XB today

I went to the St Paul HD website and rounded up all of the needed part numbers. I sent an email to our local HD dealer parts department with all the info. I haven't heard back from them yet. I stopped there to get oil & filter for it a couple weeks ago. The parts guy knew what bike I was talking...

    Finally for the XB today

Thanks for the offer. I'm checking with my local HD dealer to see if they can get the rebuild kits. If they don't I'll just order them from St Pauls and pay the shipping.
