09 XT 25k miles, valvetrain issue

I just bought an 09 XT with 25,000 miles. Amazingly clean bike. Seller said it stopped running on him during a ride. He took it to the shop and it has no compression in the rear cylinder. I scoped it when I brought it home and it looks like the exhaust valve in the rear cylinder kissed the...

    Seeking New Tires Suggestions

I enjoy taking my Uly down gravel roads on occasion. It doesn't see any "real" off roading (I have a DRZ for that), but I like the option of running off the paved trail. I had planned on going with the Road 6 but read several instances of people getting flats when gravel roads came up. As...

Hello forum ….where did everybody go?

I have a love of tubers myself. I too thought I wanted an S1, X1, S3, or M2 (in that order). I didn't realize parts for the S1 were unobtanium now. A purple S1 was my introduction to Buells, and I still have a fond spot for that loud, rowdy, vibrating beast.

    stock crank with 1275 kit

Coming from Japanese / Euro bike world I've always heard Harley guys talk about "Screamin' Eagle" this or that, all the power they're making, the "big builds" they've done, etc. I just assumed they were making massive gains. Now that I"m a bit deeper in Buell / Harley world a bit I'm surprised...

    oil leak XB12X Ulysses

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! This was my first "Buell lesson" after buying my Ulysses. You may not even want to use a wrench...just saying...

Fork rebuild parts for 06 Uly

That answers that! Thanks! I knew it would be slightly softer with the larger air gap. I really, really like the suspension on the Uly. It's both comfortable and confidence inspiring. I don't really know how much oil was in it prior to the refresh (leaking fork seal which was fixed with the...

Fork rebuild parts for 06 Uly

A lot! Thanks! I notice your info says 172mm for 07 forks, and the 07 manual says 192mm. Any idea why the difference? I pulled the forks again today to fix my “not adjusting” rebound adjustment. While I had it apart I adjusted the fork oil level to 192mm, per the manual.

    Hyperpro progressive fork springs.

Thanks! That makes sense. I like that the Buell manual has you measure the level with the forks compressed, which is far easier than bikes I've dealt with in the past which want them measured at full extension.

    Hyperpro progressive fork springs.

Regarding USD forks, for your method you're only filling the bottom fork leg, correct? Not letting it overflow into the top tube as well and filling all the way to (-4mm from) the cap threads? The fork seal remains "dry" as you're filling the tube, correct?

    Rebound adjuster travel concern

This does not apply if you're just doing a fluid exchange, correct? Or even seals? The locknut adjustment only comes into play if the damper rod has been disassembled, correct? Since both legs have exactly the same .75 turns of adjustment, I think someone put took them apart and re-assembled...

    Rebound adjuster travel concern

I replaced the front fork oil in the 06 and 07 Ulys yesterday. The '07 appeared stock and doesn't look like it had been opened up in the past. The '06 has been opened up before as it contained the progressive springs like the '07 has. I can't tell if they're OEM or aftermarket. I noticed...

    Does anyone recognize this muffler?

Thank you. I pulled it and looked into the outlets today...wide open spaces. I think it's just been gutted and put back together. It's got 3 pipes cut pretty cleanly inside, but not even baffle plates in front of the outlets. Just a straight shot through the 3 pipes.

    Does anyone recognize this muffler?

This is on my parts 2009 XB12R. I'm trying to determine what it is. It has no exhaust valve on top nor any spot for one. It's smooth on top. It also has dual chrome outlets at the back, and that weird looking seam roughly midway. Does anyone recognize it, or is it just another home-made...

Concerns lowering my Uly with Lightning Long suspension?

I'm considering lowering my '06 Uly. I like the styling of the Uly X but realistically something like the XT better suits my intended usage. Gravel roads are about the most "off road" my Uly is likely to see. I've got a DRZ 400 for the real dirty stuff. I've got a project Lightning Long I'm...

Doing intake gaskets. First time. What else should I do while I'm there?

I'm curious about the failure rate on the head temp sensor. It seems the temp sensor is the only thing left that might benefit from replacement while the engine is rotated. At $90, if it's a low failure rate item I might just let the old one remain. I'm planning on replacing: intake seals...

I don't know the vendor, but both Revision Moto and Aagaard both offer replacement low fuel sensors.

Doing intake gaskets. First time. What else should I do while I'm there?

I'm putting together a parts list. I'm curious what you mean by this statement. Does it appear this is not an acceptable alternative after all?

Assuming similar mechanical condition, keep an '06 or an '09?

After spending some time on my '07, I think the turning radius / lock-to-lock issue alone might make the 08+ worth it. I really enjoy taking my Uly down dirt roads and some of the neat areas off of those roads. But the seat height combined with that narrow turning radius really makes...

    LED Headlight upgrade

I installed my wish.com lights on my Uly a few days ago. I haven't taken it for a night ride yet, but holy HELL is there a difference in the garage! FWIW, they're also available on AliExpress for about the same $90. Added bonus: The mesh headlight protector will still fit on them!
