    four($) Pennsylvania Buell sightings

damn, man, i grew up in Perkiomenville and went to school in Boyertown. That Pottstown/Reading/Allentown triangle seems nice (i'll likely never have my bike up there anymore now that i moved to NC, but). SE PA has some of the best roads, because a lot of them were wagon...

    Checking torques in off season

as the dude whose sidestand bolt failed and I had to lean the bike against a dumpster ("where it belongs" from the peanut gallery).... COSIGNED

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

Cooter, that's not me, but it is the reality of a tuned Vespa. They are *stupid* fun, especially the "already wound up and then here comes the pipe hitting" phenomenon! that's a "smallframe" Vespa, and the cylinder/speed part scene for those is arguably better than my main jam, which was...

    grip recommendations?

My bike has aftermarket metal/rubber grips with a smooth metal bit on the inside of the bar that is actually a smaller diameter than the rest of the grip (highlighted in the red box in the attached pic) i'm used to using the 'saddle' between my thumb and forefinger for the majority of the...

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

Updating just to close the loop on this one: - no further goop-pukin from the reroute-to-breather-filter issues, I'm gonna just leave it as is for now and do a road-draft tube next time i have the airbox bottom off, or maybe just put the breather in a better, higher location pointing up and not...

    A Frenchy on a XB12S

With regard to the sidestand.... I have a thread on my work on my issue. By the time I realized there was a problem, one bolt had broken off and the other was visibly loose. I suspect the one that broke had loosened over time til it finally snapped. The previous owner told me you have to...

    A Frenchy on a XB12S

He is very serious about this and so am I, because I fouled plugs immediately after getting mine home doing exactly that. changing plugs is a bigger pain in the cul than you think -- the frame spars make getting to the back plug hard. Also note that oil level should be checked with it on the...

    Another newbie with issues XB9SX

Tagging into this thread as a noob someone with a nowhere-near-as-bad but still sorta-butchered XB9SX (recently discovered what sure looks like jbweld in my primary cover, probably from a parking lot fallover, but still... i know the feel of "oh that's another thing that needs fixed/the hits...

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

sorry, I intended the main idea of my post to be "a Mobil 1 M1-103a is the same as an M1-103" for others who might have my confusion. This is confirmed on mobil 1's site: https://mobiloil.com/en/oil-filters/performance-oil-filters the bit about me complaining about heavy oil in cold weather...

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

I learned a few things today. - took it for a moderate ride with some good runs thru the gears, no puke from the breather - panicked when I saw I had bought a mobil 1 m1-103A filter. Forums say I need an M1-103. Well heck, back to the parts store to find another filter that cross...

can you get kickstand bolts in without removing exhaust?

racepro it is fun to meet another 2T guy. admittedly most of my memories are all scooter based, but one thing about coming from 2Ts to Buells that is crazy is the torque. I always likened a 2T powerband/pipe hit to "you're already going fast and it's wound up, then God gives you a little nudge...

can you get kickstand bolts in without removing exhaust?

i'm in Durham, NC, Cooter. not a lot of cast-off race parts *that i know of* but you never know -- i'm not "in the scene" at All. Quit riding when my son was born because, well, he took over my life (as it should be), not because I was suddenly anti-MC or whatever... just priorities change, you...

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

oh, and i'll probably lose the oil breather thing, and go to a road draft system if it comes up good.

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

thx lunaticfringe, this makes me feel less bad :) . The bike had sat for awhile then been ridden as you describe.... and the puke was not pure oil but milky mud (water in it for sure). I will oil change, ride again as currently configured and watch for puke, then test.

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

Cooter and TPEHAK I like your line of thought in that -i am probably exaggerating the amount (i looked at the puke trail and guessed) -there was very probably a buncha cack in the line just waiting to be vented -i am probably panicking over nothing -i should just test the damn thing and (hey I...

newbie breather mod question: do i need to worry?

So I bought an 06 xb9sx that is a bit of a bitsa and immediately fouled its plugs. In the course of removing the airbox bottom to get at the plugs, I discovered it had a breather re-route mod done, with both PCVs teed to a hose letting out at a fake-K&N-style breather fitting just dangling...

    Exhaust: what would you do?

Hey sorry for not replying sooner to say thanks to ocgreenmachine for the link comparing pipes. Thank you! I'm tabling the exhaust thing for a while but i'll go Drummer someday (probably just the stock box rework and not the SS because i'm cheap, but the SS looks and sounds great)

can you get kickstand bolts in without removing exhaust?

    1. I no longer have a decently hard safety wire drill bit, nor the pliers. But i remember (not fondly) drilling oil drain plugs when i raced Vespas [i am NOT "chicago" and that's a thing that really happened, i swear!) 2. I have no idea how long it would take to drill a grade 8 bolt head with...

can you get kickstand bolts in without removing exhaust?

I got the bastard out using a chisel, then a Dremel cutting wheel to slot it. Got it all back together with grade 8 bolts and red Loctite. All buttoned except for the chin spoiler, which I am going to leave off and do an oil change (my faith in the PO saying he'd done one recently is fading)...
