Been gone long time, stator question

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ so what you're saying is that my Stator may actually be putting out good voltage but the VR isn't sending tnat power back to the battery to keep it charged? Exactly. Always test alternator before replacing VR. Proper test is very simple and outlined in SM...

looking for updated drive belt info XB12R

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Absolutely brilliant Bob and that is precisely how the 2 mounting holes should be slightly elongated. Great info.

Thanks a ton Bob and really appreciate the kind words. That tensioner mod you eluded to actually does relieve just enough belt tension to give the wheel bearings a break. All XR1200's from the factory have a fixed belt tensioner which is similar in design and identical in application to the XB...

looking for updated drive belt info XB12R

Yes Sir Richard my pleasure. That new belt is going to feel extraordinarily tight during initial installation. Give it a few miles to "run in". While you're doing this work, also check your rear wheel bearings....1 per side...and the belt tensioner pulley bearings for condition and smoothness...

LOL Josh. Had to break out my "orientation flow-chart" to get a handle on this thread.

Been gone long time, stator question

A "failing" VR will typically display some pretty wild fluctuations in DC output voltage. A "failed" VR will typically display NO DC output voltage being pumped into the battery/electrical system. Your 2003 VR has equidistant twin plug wiring length. The 2008-2010 VR has staggered distance...

Been gone long time, stator question

Tom: Bikes and myself have been great. Thanks for asking. And congrats on marrying Jen. I recall from your vids that she was a super cool chick. I'm betting money on a failed VR but check your stator system charging output before purchasing a new VR. The simple multi-meter check spelled out in...

Been gone long time, stator question

Hey Tom: I've mentioned you on here a few times during your hiatus. You...Chicago(the venetian blind salesman)....TEABAG....the lotta ya. What year is your XB? 2003-2007 are 3 phase. 2008-2010 are single phase. Completely different VR's. Let me know and I'll get you the XL/XR cross-over part...

    Strange fuel issue

Robin: Tbone spot-on. All your ailments are symptomatic of a failing fuel pump. False low fuel signal...failure of pump to pick up and pressurize low fuel quantity in frame...false "frame empty" symptom. If you're still in South Africa, good luck getting a complete OEM pump rebuild kit or new pump.

    Clutch - XB12X

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My pleasure and I believe you'll be very happy with the EnergyOne kit and yes...comes with diaphragm compressor tool required for R&R. They've been in business over 30 years and know what they're doing. Ancillary benefit is that you can use your choice of any of the standard...

Best way to proceed after getting water down the intake?

Looks like there's a crank case drain plug above the muffler. Perfect. That's what I'll do. That is NOT a drain plug and should never be removed. Sealing plug factory installed to permanently close off machined passages during the manufacturing process. Remove at your own peril.

    Clutch - XB12X

Tbone: As per Donna Clayson...customer service rep at Alto Inc. in Atmore, AL.....their Red Carbon-Based clutch kit NOT recommended for XB-XL-XR street use. EnergyOne kit is priced right, great reputation, comes with spring compressor kit for R&R, and owner is board member on here.

Doing intake gaskets. First time. What else should I do while I'm there?

Have aftermarket replacements for the PCV valve been identified? $47 each for a PCV from St Paul seems a bit steep. YES
