    Less Noisy?

This is just a wild guess and I could be totally wrong, but maybe the packing wasn't secured properly inside the pipe and blew to the back of the pipe and bunched-up in a wad and changed the sound. Open it up and take a look. Yes you are right - over time the packing wears out and the pipe...

    craigslist. money order. scam?

Find out from the bank if it's possible for the check to come back as a fraud after the 2-day hold. The funds might be "verified" for your use, but that doesn't necessarily mean a charge-back can't happen later if the check is fake. It happend to me 5 years ago. The fake check I deposited was...

A day off and just me and the TT

Nice pics of a great looking STT. By the looks of Lake Jocassee, I'm going to have to add it to my list of places to ride.

Added 500 miles to my lightning today

The furthest I went in one day was about 500 miles. I have to move around on the seat to keep the circulation going otherwise I get monkey-butt after 200 miles. A 4600 mile trip on a Lightning sound like fun. Take lots of pics and post them here.

    Engine Break-In

I agree. It's a good idea to use petroleum oil for the first 5000 miles. It's a better oil to get the ring seat done right. After about 5000 miles the slickness of synthetic is best. Synthetic at 30 miles is too soon.

    Engine Break-In

I have an 2010 XB9SX. For what it's worth, this is my experience with the engine break-in. I babied it for way past the break-in period. I ended up with a turd motor, like soda pop with no fizz in it. It just never had the torque that I expected. Then I read this article about engine break-in...

    XB9S MPG

Not really sure, but there was another gas mileage thread a while ago and there were a bunch of people with pre-2008 XB12's getting 50 - 60 mpg. The only way I can get that kind of mpg is if I bring my XB9SX into my living room and strap it to my treadmill. Congrats on getting high MPG. It...

    XB9S MPG

If you baby it you get over 200 miles to a tank? Really? Seriously? My XB9SX gets around 42 mpg +-2mpg depending how I drive. From what I've read on this forum that's about what most get with an XB9SX. Note: I said "about" and "XB9SX". I believe the pre-2008 XB12's get a little better MPG.

    buell mileage

High mileage never bothered me. I did 17K in the first year and backed it up with another 17K the second. It was new when I bought it (CityX). My goal is 100K and I'm trying to keep it in showroom condition as best as I can. To me 100K is a lot of miles on a motorcycle. About the same as 200K on...

Laying down on lightning common at higher speeds?

On windy days I will sometimes lean forward at 70+ mph. The wind noise is louder but it feels good to temporarily to duck under the wind. One big problem is that I can't see any traffic around me so I need to keep popping up to look in my mirrors for safety. Most days I can go up to 90 mph...
