2005 buell xb12 lightning starts but wont run properly

It's not that bad of a job. If I remember the procedure correctly, you need to disconnect the shock to drop the swingarm. But if you can lift the bike high enough (suspend it from a rafter or step ladder?), you don't need to actually remove the rear wheel. Lunaticfringe / John on the forum...

XB Frame Pucks...Possible Future Supply...I need your old Frame Pucks to do it

Nicely done Doug!!! Thanks for helping the Buell community to get a long-lost part back into production. At first I was wondering why you went with the rougher surface, but I see that your model can be spray painted over if minor scratches. What kind of speckled paint are you recommending?

2005 buell xb12 lightning starts but wont run properly

I had similar problems with my '09 XB9Sx. Would take about 6 hits of the starter button to get it motor to catch, and then if I played with throttle it would die. But then bike would run fine, no problems with power at speed. Starting on warm engine was much easier. Ended up replacing the...

    XB rear axle

Hey nice try, sweeping that under the rug :applause: But glad that your pal Cooter saved it for posterity. Otherwise folks late to the party wouldn't understand why the heck we're teasing you

Fitting an EBR Air Box Cover to a Buell XB

Watch it there buddy, you're gonna get banned like TPEHAK! I hear the Wrath of LF puts the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to shame. Mostly cuz they don't ride Buells... Hilarious though :eagerness: PS I never quite understood the banning of TPEHAK. Looks like he had some good fabricating...

    What have I done...

That bike looks amazing! I love the riveted look, it really does make it look like one of your warbirds. I think some people have painted / modified their mufflers to look like a belly bomb or drop tank. Probably too cheesey for your refined tastes :eagerness: You've got remarkable skills in...

    2009 XB12Ss Rona mods

Those cooling ducts / air scoops look great. What brand are those, and where did you get them? But without the protruding "scoop" part, do you think they funnel enough air to the engine? Have you noticed your engine running hotter, or your fan running longer?

    Ichiban Moto

Not sure if I trust a guy whose screwdrivers consist of duct tape and zip ties... And hand drilling out a jet orifice on the fly without any fixed clamp or a drill press? No way that is anywhere precise enough. Patching a hole in the carb diaphragm with electrical tape? Doubt that's going to...

Talk me out of buying a XB-12Scg

Darkphaux, where are you located? I'm in SF. Happy to swap colors with you if you want :eagerness: Getting the wheels off can be a bit tricky, esp the front one with its crazy peripheral rotor. The axle needs a special tool like this...

Talk me out of buying a XB-12Scg

I had to look that one up. You clearly like bikes with twin round headlights :applause: Me too! Black with amber wheels is a beautiful combo. Would have been my top pick, if I hadn't found my blue one...

    Cooter rides a Buell

Wow, you are really OUT THERE! What gorgeous corner of the country is that? Looks somewhat northern West Coastish?

    Cooter rides a Buell

That's awesome! I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and didn't know we had mountains nearby for most of my teenage years!

Talk me out of buying a XB-12Scg

Here are my 2 bits... For comparison, I also ride a Triumph Daytona. It's light, smooth, maneuverable and on paper has more top end horsepower than my '09 XB9Sx. Power that I haven't even come close to using at its full potential. It's the scalpel to the Buell's jackhammer. Yet there's...

    Why Buell stumbles (research)

Great topic, I want to learn more. As Buell owners, we all have a vested interest and think our bikes are uniquely cool. Also curious - I realize that being members of this forum will skew the results, but what percentage of motorcycle owners work on their own bike? More than car owners I...

    Not bike related but important.

@lunaticfringe Hi John, hope things in your neck of the woods are going OK. Sounds like Philadelphia is getting busy. Hope it doesn't affect the Amish Country too much...

    XB12 muffler on an XB9

    Increase oil capacity?

You saying I should get rid of the Exxon Valdez I bungie corded to my back seat??? Was wondering why I kept popping wheelies! :black_eyed:

    Increase oil capacity?

I know oil is technically just for lubrication, but it does work to dissipate heat no? That's why we have an oil cooler with its own little air scoop. Theoretically if you had a 50 gallon drum of oil at room temperature circulating through the engine, that would certainly keep it cooler. Now...

    *****buell xb digital voltmeter mod*****

Just to connect / merge this with another thread. https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?54370-Voltage-Gauge-in-dash-DIY-video Here's what I wrote on the other thread. Highly recommend this mod, it does come in handy. After I installed mine, the display would jump randomly from 11-15V...
