    I was just going to suggest what Tone said. Swapping a Uly tail with the backrest might be your easiest/least expensive option, allowing you to keep your Buell and still ride together. Or you could try fabricating a backrest for your 'bolt.

    LED stripe tail chop from stock tail

    JB weld should be ok to powdercoat. I'd prebake the tail to let it outgas and see if the JB Weld shrinks or anything. If its still smooth, then PC away. Looks like TPEHAK only used a little bit of JB Weld so the shrinkage should be nonexistant. And excellent job documenting this and sharing it...

    The guy had a link to his facebook and had a video of it running and it sounded good. I'm thinking it was probably the very front part where the lower fairing mounts? Regardless, it would have been worth the price of shipping. It probably could have been fixed.

    Pretty much what thrstrmech said. You can find the top clamp on ebay or from someone in the classified section. The bars are 7/8 (right? I'm TDY right now and away from my bike or I would measure to be sure), so pick a bar bend that will be comfortable for you.
