    ECMSPY Blues

More news: It was recommended by the vendor to "resolder the connections" which I found odd, but did as instructed. I believe the connectors were faulty. I took 3 terminals from the male portion of a 4 pin molex connector and fabricated female connectors (filed off the ends - that's another...

    ECMSPY in Virginia??

I live in Sterling, I haven't managed to get mine working yet, but I believe that's just a small issue I should have corrected shortly.

Turns out the red wire (#1) didn't have continuity - I'll break out the gun tonight and patch it up, we'll see if that was the problem tomorrow morning.

    ECMSPY Blues

All previous attempts were run as administrator, I'll try the compatibility mode, but I've tested the virtual serial port using hyperterminal without an issue.

I'll break out the multimeter tonight and check all the pins. Good and easy check, thanks.

Yeah my options are running thin here. At this point I have no replies. I'm attempting to get ahold of another brand of laptop to see if it has something to do with the USB ports which were used on the laptop, but I think that's a stab in the dark. When I have time I'm also going to take it to...

    ECMSPY Blues

The first time I had the cable attached/bike on/etc I attempted that - It never found anything. All driver installations were manual and forced. I just attempted using the Prolific Drivers I found a link to in another post - The cable/port was found/assigned easier (worked via plug and play)...

Did, including older drivers to see if there was any compatibility issues with the newer drivers.

    ECMSPY Blues

Yes - the only results I get past that are "communications timed out" or "Unable to retrieve firmware version" depending on what function I was attempting to execute.

    ECMSPY Blues

Yes - found whatever port the usb serial adapter either configured itself as automatically or was specifically set to. Tried both.

On that note - any Buellers around Sterling VA have a working ECMSpy setup?

    ECMSPY Blues

On the older laptop I tried multiple ports - 2 of the USB ports were "over/under" while the other 2 are "left/right" - which means the USB controllers for each are different. It picked a different port, but the result was the same.

Cable - check Ignition on - check Switch in the run position - check FTDI USB-Serial driver installed - check ECMSPY installed - check Initially I was having issues with ECMSpy reporting "com port already open" - I beat my head on a wall for about 2 hours until I decided to try another laptop...

    Speedometer stopped working

If anyone can post a picture of the plug of the speed sensor I'd greatly appreciate it. It appears that this sensor may not be buell specific, almost all of these damn things look exactly the same... I could be wrong though. As far as the oil, it's probably from the prior oil, as I just did a...

    Speedometer stopped working

rrh481 - I sent you a PM. Turns out after only about 5 miles this morning, it puttered out again. Buellparts.net doesn't have the part in stock, it's on backorder with no date. edit: Would anyone mind searching ebay for "harley speed sensor" and give me your opinion? There appear to be a ton...

    Speedometer stopped working

Interesting - Are you implying that the goop isn't the root cause and that the "goop removal" only slightly/temporarily causes the speedo to start working? Didn't ride the bike today, so the question is in earnest - damn thing could go tits up within 50 feet for all I know.

Rain is in the forecast today - no extended test ride. I'll let you know.

    Speedometer stopped working

Turns out it had this thin coating of what appeared to be a grey lithium grease slung all over the bottom of it. Cleaned it off with a paper towel, put it back in, took it out on the road for a test and voila, worked just like nothing had happened. Not sure what that crap on it was, it wasn't...
