    xb12xt axle cover questions

Those are "axle sliders", and there are a few different designs they use for them. They are used to add some protection if the bike gets layed down, they cover the holes to keep dirt and water out, and also allow you to slide further down the road, lol. I think most all of them have a rubber...

    Sidestand flange bolt

Just wanted to post here in case anyone is looking for an OEM sidestand flange bolt. After getting the proper part# for the flange bolt from Forum member Barrett, and my local HD dealer telling me it's obsolete, I found that St.Paul HD has them in stock. (Part#CA0015.02A8 B1H) Unfortunately...

    Rear axle loosening

Thank you John. Its a tool I won't mind lending out if need be. My axle is in pretty good shape as it turns out(pun intended). My local bike shop guy has a nice glass bead blaster and has just recently cleaned up the muffler for my Uly, so I can paint. I think I'll take your advice and have him...

    Rear axle loosening

SUCCESS! Thankyou all for your input. I couldn't wait for tomorrow, and didn't want to be accused of being a slacker.:eagerness: Below is pic. of my triple nutted axle tool. Plenty of room for my 1/2" drive deep impact socket. Because I was concerned about the heat from welding the nuts...

    Rear axle loosening

HaHa. After reading John's post (and even after I just built my own axle tool) I started looking around the shop for a 1/2" drive 13/16" spark plug socket for backup plan, but no such luck(only 3/8" drives). I'd need to buy one. I'll be going for it w/ my triple nutted homemade version probably...

    Rear axle loosening

All excellent info Shaughn, thank you. The multi-axle tool from St.Paul says that it's not intended to be used w/ impact wrench, and is why I was going to make my own. But if the multi-tool is in fact stronger, as you suggest, then I will definitely order one. So.... a 24mm deep socket will fit...

    Rear axle loosening

Thanks for your reply. Damn, If I have to take a hacksaw to it, that will take many many beers! I'll keep posted how my "Grade 8 tool" & impact work out. This wasn't suppose to have turned into a project!

    Rear axle loosening

Very old thread I know, but I'm having the same problem. I will make up a grade 8 bolt(head ground down slightly from 15/16" to make it a perfect snug 7/8") with welded nut(15/16")to be used as my removal socket. I don't have the factory axle tool and don't trust that the multi-axle tool like...

    Another muffler post

Thank you both for the reply. If that factory bolt part(H-D)mentioned was in fact upgraded to a Grade 8, I don't mind spending a few more bucks to get that proper flange diameter(13/16"). Thanks again.

Dead Uly on I-5 in Portland Oregon

I've been working on a project in Klamath Falls, but we're currently waiting for the snow to melt to pick back up in the spring. It's about as close as this Conservative cares to be to Portland. :loyal:

xb12s - refitting stock muffler - what about the exhaust valve?

Thanks for your above post John. I too am currently removing my muffler(see my new post), and will be sure to run through this maintenance list for the IEV system while I'm at it. Always appreciate the sagely advice! And good luck to you Jurrien, hope it all works out.

    Another muffler post

Hi Bueller community, been a while since I've posted last. I'm currently removing the stock muffler on my 06'XB12X due to the old issue of the sidestand mount bolts shearing off, and have a couple of questions. PO must have upgraded the stand because it has the pivot pin w/ the circlip, as well...

    Happy Thanksgiving

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Am rolling out the Ulysses for a short blast, and having it all warmed up for the son in law to take a little Coastal ride when the family shows up. I need to get another bike like some of y'all for such occasions.

    My new ride

Nice Bike! Looks just like mine. As Barrett mentioned; great that you've got most of the common issues worked out. Re: Rear shock(and FWIW), I used EPM Performance Imports, Inc.([email protected]) to rebuild my rear shock. Seals, oil, gas valve, nitrogen gas, etc., and including labor, cost me...

    Highway pegs - revisited

Zen and the art of motorcycle riding! Seriously, I'm going to give all that a try on my next outing. Man, you could even meditate floating along like that..... but keep one eye open!

    Merry Christmas

When that happens to me, I end up giving up and proceeding, more often than not at the same exact time the other folks do. Then one of us has to hit the brakes; and more often than not I let them do that. :D
