Who has the Highest Miles on their Buell?????

Your statement isn’t necessarily wrong but I think it might be “off” a little. One thing for you to keep in mind; A Harley’s longevity is more a result of the fact that their enormously under stressed more than anything else. A Briggs and Stratton will run for 40 years even with poor maintenance...

    XB9S MPG

It's the final drive ratio that will have the bigger effect, not the number of gears. technically, my Buell, with its 5 speed, was geared taller (lower revs at highway speed) than my 6sp Hayabusa (which has VERY tall gearing for a sportbike) and it was also better on gas. I've never driven any...

can someone please help me ?

Check all of your grounds. Buells do seem to have grounding issues. Also, Sportster are known for cam sensor issues causing all sort of wierd running problems. It's not much of a stretch to think that they probably used the same sensors in the XB's. That very well could be the problem. If it...

    XB9S MPG

Boy, you'll have a really hard time believing that during the trip I took last year, I got over 60mpg out of my XB12 on several consecutive tanks then. :D My worst tank for the whole 1500mi trip was 56mpg. On my daily commute (40-ish miles each way; 80/20 hwy) I would consistently get low 50's...

    sport bike for under 4k?

I have a friend like that. He is absolutely dead set that his first bike IS going to be a new Ducati Monster; no amount of reasoning will convince him otherwise. He's gonna cry the first time he misplaces his feet at a stop and lays down that $10k Duc. [sad] I spent a lot of time on an old as...

    sport bike for under 4k?

Remember that when one day when its your kid wanting a bike that will out-accellerate any mass produced car in existance, will run 150+mph, has notoriously twitchy handling and is VERY unforgiving of simple "beginner" mistakes. Just because you know one person that managed to stay alive while...

    sport bike for under 4k?

That changes everything. Any of the fully faired sportbikes are a TERRIBLE choice for a first bike. Not only do they have twitchy handling, MASSIVE amounts of power and super strong brakes but a simple " My foot slipped and I layed it down" incident could = $1000 in plastics damage. Look for...

    sport bike for under 4k?

Depends a LOT on your local market. Around here early fuel injected sportbikes (2000-2003-4ish)can be had for $4g or under. In some places those same bikes can be had for less than $3g's. Best bang for the buck under $4g's will be a Honda CBR f4i. They look just like a regular "RR" but with a...

    firebolt model

Man I want one! It would be IMPOSSIBLE to keep my kids from playing with it though.:D

im looking for xb firebolt saddlebags, anyone?

Love, Love, Loved my bags! Their just the cheap Dowco saddle bags and matching tail bag (bout' $100 for both). They have worked GREAT though and have plenty of room. I use the tail bag ALL the time. I sold the bike but the bags stayed with me.

    want to buy emcspy

Buells are VERY sensitive to muffler volume (not db's, ft3)and exhaust tuning. Be careful cutting up a stocker as you could create a HUGE hole in the powerband. I can't really tell you what to aim for (volume-wise), maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

    high mileage maintenance issues?

20k is not high mileage, not by a long shot. [up]

    No replacement.

As per MCN testing: 03 XB9R- 1/4mi [email protected] speed 127 (“S” models will be similar) 03 SV650s 1/4mi [email protected] speed 126 They have another 03 SV quoted as running an 11.63 but that seems like a bit of a fluke so I chose a slower one to compare. I’d say the SV matches the Buell...

    No replacement.

Who cares what "other bikers" think when they see you on it? I quit caring what other people thought (especially fickle image conscious "bikers" ) a LONG time ago. Their opinions aren't worth me putting forth the effort to care about 99% of the time. If you don't like it just sell it. Tax...

2004 xb with a motor knock

Could just be the primary chain floppin' around from being too loose. A loose chain contacting the primary cover could very easily make a "knocking" sound and it'll sound like it's coming from the bottom of the motor. Why not hope for the best. :D

    Motorcycles VS copcar drift- badass!

Definitely not the fastest way around a corner. The exception to this would be EXTREMELY tight corners where you need to get the car to rotate or on loose surfaces (rally car). Even then they generally want to get the car hooked back up with the tarmac ASAP since spinning tires are wasted power...

    hard shifting and gearbox

It’s a common problem/complaint with an XB. It’s that Harley heritage showing itself. :D You’ll never get a Buell tranny to be butter smooth but it doesn’t have to be clunky and uncooperative either. When all is right it’ll be solid feeling, emit a solid CLICK when shifting (not the light...

Anyone done an Iron Butt ride?

I have a strong sense of adventure but I'm not sure I'd attempt that on a Lightning. :( Don't underestimate the fatigue that is cause by riding an unfaired bike that far. After 12hrs or so in the saddle it can become a REAL problem. I know, I've done it. I did 1200mi in 3 days on a streetfighter...

Anyone have a daily drive Xb with high miles?

Agreed. "Uncle"'s bike probably makes all of 75-80hp on a good day (assuming he's done the typical AC/Pipes/tune: much less if he hasn't) and he's probably got a 96" (1600cc) motor. Making 100+hp from 1200cc's with a Harley engine means you are giving up longevity for power. You just can't have...
