Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

Made it back to London, but man what a drama. Two Harley dealers (Moscow & Warsaw) failed to spot the real problem for the vibrations - failing bearings both front and back. I'm particularly pissed at Harley Warsaw as I told them I was getting some vibrations from the front wheel under braking...

Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

I've got an entire workshop to my disposal actually :) The motel owner also runs a garage. Just no parts. I'm wondering if wrapping the leads in insulating tape might help (and cleaning contacts) .

Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

So I stopped at HD in Moscow. They plugged the bike in and no error codes came up. The guy reckoned it was a fuel issue and a couple of tanks of decent fuel would sort the problem out. Many tanks later it hasn't. I then spoke to my dealer back home and explained the problems : bike starts...

Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

I've spoken to local drivers who recommend BP, shell and neste. However even after 5 or 6 tankfulls the problem hasn't sorted itself out.

Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

I forgot to mention that the problem is much worse when hot. (Being 30+ here in Moscow doesn't help!)

Engine running rough (and i made it to moscow)

So I made it to Moscow however the bike isn't running very nicely. It chugs around 4500rpm and it's particularly noticeable at speed (over 60mph). I'm wondering if the crappy Russian fuel could have done something to the engine. I've been filling up with as decent stuff as I can get but I did...

    Clutch weeping

I plan on taking this up with HD. I realise that the bike is out of warranty (although only just) and that they can't support people ad-infinitum, however £273 for just a couple of small parts is taking the piss. I'll let you know how I get on.

    Clutch weeping

Just had a mad bit of luck. On a whim I thought I'd drive on the same route as I rode the bike to see if I could spot the missing dust cover. Got the end of my road and saw a suspicious back disc in the gutter which turned out to be my part! It's a bit scuffed but looks usable. The bad bit is I...

    Clutch weeping

Thanks Bossanova. I guess the seals going could have forced out the plug? I'm praying they have the seal kit in stock at the HD dealer I'm sending the bike to. It's a pain getting parts over here in the UK - everything has to come from the states.

    Clutch weeping

I've just hit the same (or at least similar) issue. Got home today and the plug was missing from the clutch cover. Clutch would hardly disengage so it's clearly lost fluid. Am I right in thinking the plug plays a role in holding hydraulic fluid in or is there a seal inside that should be doing...

    Low speed steering on 1125R

So the tyres were shagged. Just had new ones put on (Angel STs - need something that will last the distance) and it feels like it's on rails. No more dipping in slow turns or stiff steering.

    Low speed steering on 1125R

The ride takes me up through Sweden where I get a ferry to Helsinki. Then onto St Petersburg and down to Moscow for a wedding. Coming back to London via Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. I'll be sure to get some scenic pics of the bike!

    Low speed steering on 1125R

Thanks mirkvid. Looking at the tyres they're a touch squared off, not sure how bad they are. I'm sure practice is the most important thing. I'd better get some miles down as I'm riding this bike from London to Russia on the 28th of May!

    Low speed steering on 1125R

Just picked up an '08 1125R and rode it home this evening. My previous bike was an SV650S so it's quite a change. One thing I'm finding tricky is low speed steering. It either seems very twitchy or very heavy. I'm fairly sure it's all technique and not the bike - especially coming from the SV...
