Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

Happyness is: So the fan cut off its own supply. Break was right where the loom passes through the fan shrowd. Took all of 10 min to find and 20 min later she was fixed...

Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

Thanks Barrett, That will be my next check. I have had the intermittent "rear O2 sensor inactive" error, but not for quite a while. At least the problem does not involve trying to get a fan over from the US. Thats already a plus for me.

Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

ok, so today I had an opportunity to do some more in-depth troubleshooting. Removed the fan completely and wired it directly to the bike battery. It ran flat out as it should. No oil on the fan or rear cylinder, all nice and dry. Fan turns smoothly with no noise or play evident in the bearings...

Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

No oils. It even sounds quiet when running off a battery.

Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

tested ok, as in it works if I power it directly from a battery.

Error code 36 Fan issue. Short to ground.

Well it seems that as my mileage climbs, so do my issues. 06 XB9SX 90 000km. I just replaced the pump assembly last month, and its been running great, but yesterday the CEL started coming on each time the fan should have engaged. I have done the following: Fan was replaced about 6 yrs ago...

    Strange fuel issue

Thanks for the offer. All available locally except the fuel level sensor. I can live with that though.

    Strange fuel issue

Thanks Barrett. On my wife's I replaced Pump, FPR and filter last year, so I'll just do the same again here. Bosch pump, filter from HD and FPR from a local supplier, so all new and I should be sorted.

    Strange fuel issue

So I finally had a chance to pull the pump assembly. Here is a video of the pump running in a bucket of water. (yes I did run fuel through it again to clear out the water) I dont suppose anything should be leaking out the top of the pump, so I can assume its time for a new pump?

    Strange fuel issue

Thanks Barrett. I had considered the fuel pump pressure. I did replace the fuel pump, regulator and filter less than a year ago on my wife's XB9, so the parts are available here (Bosch pump etc) I took the complete pump assembly from her low mileage bike and put it in mine since mine is slightly...

    Strange fuel issue

This may be difficult for some as its in metric measurements. I run an 06 XB9SX with 87000km. Its been well maintained and runs beautifully. The past 2 tanks however I have run out of fuel before the low fuel light comes on, and it takes only 10,5L to fill it up. The norm is when the light...

    Rear 02 sensor error

Well despite my fuel pump biting the dust, the replacement thereof and also replacement of the filter while I was in there, was a short lived reprieve. I got to the stage where the bike stood and I was using my R1200RS exclusively. Not ideal as commuting is not what I bought it for. So to date...

    Rear 02 sensor error

Well my own question was answered yesterday when my fuel pump kicked the bucket. I managed to nurse it home spitting and farting, dying at every opportunity. Hopefully the replacement will be the end of my problems.

    Rear 02 sensor error

Well its been a while, and honestly no progress on this. After not finding anything obvious, I bought a new O2 sensor yesterday and fitted it. When for a run today, and exactly the same symptoms. Constant speed above 120kmph for a few km's and the light comes on again. I usually drop speed down...

    Rear 02 sensor error

Sorry wasnt clear. the speed sensor was removed and cleaned. I have not yet touched the O2 due to its location and basic lack of time on my side.

    Rear 02 sensor error

Well to update with current status. A few days after I last posted, as my clocks rolled over to 80000km, my speedo and odo stopped working. I followed google and removed the sensor. It had very little grey matter, but I cleaned it up, replaced it, and also cleaned and reseated the 3 pin...

    Cam side oil seal size

Thanks, that would be a last option though, as my door is in Pretoria South Africa, so shipping costs and time make it much easier for me to buy local, if I have the size.

    Cam side oil seal size

Hi guys. '06 XB9SX. I have developed an oil leak from the cam cover where the wiring exits. I assume is the crank seal. Does anyone have the seal size. I dont currently have alternate transport, so I need to get the old one out and new one in, in one operation. Thanks Robin

    Rear 02 sensor error

And just to post a follow up, The bike was unused for a month or so while I hacked the pipe and made it into a Buell race pipe replica, and also did some cosmetic work. I fixed the slight blow it had where the headers meet the main exhaust, double checked the grounds, check for chaffing etc, and...

    Rear 02 sensor error

Well the only thing I've noticed is a slight exhaust blow between the headers and the pipe. I'll tackle that the weekend and reset the AVF to 100 and see where it ends up. I can swing a spanner, but when it come to tuning and electronic brains, I get into deep waters. I appreciate everyone's...
