    Puzzling brake light issue

rpatt1: the old tail light was an LED, manufacturer unknown. Here's a summary of what I've done: I have unplugged, one at a time, each element in the circuit: hand switch, foot switch, horn, and rear brake light. (Not the muffler control, it is completely disconnected and the wire ends each...

    Puzzling brake light issue

I'm not sure what you're saying. The fuse pops after i've disconnected and reconnected the battery and started the bike. Even if I immediately shut the bike off without touching the horn or brake and then try the horn or brake, the fuse will pop.

    Puzzling brake light issue

I'll check the voltage regulator, thanks. It had crossed my mind. Although, like you, I can't think why it would only affect the brake light. Yes, the horn is on the same fuse. (with the brake light, brake light switches and muffler) The horn pops the fuse just like the brake switches. I checked...

    Puzzling brake light issue

rah7777777: It's not the light. The unit is great. This was happening with the old light, too. I just can't help but think it's something in the overall system. I disconnected that battery when I put in your light. Reconnected the battery and checked the light and hand and foot switches...

    Puzzling brake light issue

rah7777777: Yes, I was working on this a while ago. Thought I had it resolved. But when I started the bike (a few days later) the fuse popped. The tail light is from XBLights. 07Bolt: The fuse pops when I hit either the brake lever or the foot lever. It only does it after I've changed the fuse...

    Puzzling brake light issue

Thank you for your responses. It's an aftermarket LED light which includes running light and turn signals. Would you please explain "hooked-up backwards." When I installed it, I replaced a similar light. I have the shop manual, and followed the color coding exactly.

    Puzzling brake light issue

My message is a little unclear. If I disconnect the battery, then replace the fuse, then reconnect the battery, the brake light works. If I then start the bike and hit the brake, the fuse pops.

    Puzzling brake light issue

Here's a real puzzler. I've got an '05 XB12scg with a brake light that pops its fuse. I can't find a short anywhere! And believe me, I've looked. Here's the odd part. If I disconnect the battery, then replace the fuse and turn the key on, the brake light works like a champ. If I start the bike...

    Brake/horn fuse blows immediately

I share your frustration. I keep popping the same fuse when I hit either brake. Still haven't got it fixed. One other unit on that circuit is the muffler control. Try unplugging it, too. I've got an '05 XB12Scg; the connection is by the left side of the battery. Good luck. Let me know what you find.

    lost my key

I did the same thing. Aren't some Buell keys the same blank as Ducati? Anyway, I got a couple off ebay and cut them myself. (I do lock work.)

    Brake light short

It's baa..aack! I thought I had the problem solved by covering the muffler control plug. It was working! I put the air box and everything back together..got a brake light. Started it..got brake light. All fixed. This afternoon I came out for a ride, turned the key, decided to check by squeezing...

    Brake light short

Problem solved! The third circuit on that fuse was the interactive muffler (which no longer exists since I have a Micron on it). The ground was at the plug where the control unit once plugged into the wiring harness. Got a brake light again. Thanks for all your thoughts and help.

    Brake light short

Hi Robert, I jumped on your website to look at your tail lights. Mine looks like yours but I'm not sure it is. It has "clear alternative" on the lens. Whoever installed it did a lousy wiring job; I had to clean it up. I'm considering replacing the light anyway. Mine has a white lens; I like your...

    Brake light short

Little help needed. I've got an '05 XB12Scg with a brake light short. I have a Micron exhaust and an LED tail light with integrated turn signals. (The turn signals work fine.) The horn, brake light and exhaust control are on the same 10 amp fuse, of course. The exhaust control is gone, of...

    Anyone recognize this one?

Bought this '05 about a year ago. Thought someone might recognize it.

OOPS cross threaded rear spark plug

Thanks for the help guys. I feel like an idiot. Had my trusty piece of tubing there on the bench, but got distracted and tried to install the plug on a wiggle extension.

OOPS cross threaded rear spark plug

Yeah, I did it. Just being dumb. Recommendations? By the way, this is the bike with the intermittent miss. Thought I'd post a picture but I don't know how to upload a photo.
