'02 Firebolt stuck in 5th gear!?

hey everybody,
Like the title says, my friends 02 Firebolt is stuck in 5th gear. It doesn't matter if the clutch is in or out when you try and downshift the shifter doesn't engage anything.

I tried playing around with it while i was moving the bike, but it just isnt engaging anything when you downshift, but you cant shift up either. Apparently my friend was coming out of a turn, upshifted and then just could never downshift again.

i am only asking because i will most likely be the one trying to fix it. is this a common problem and is there a simple or common solution?

I have done major engine repair/rebuilding but this is my first time with a buell/harley engine. other than getting a manual is there anything i need to know?

Take off the cover on the primary to see if you can see anything jammed or ant shavings in the clutch ramps and mechanisms

had to be at least an 03 xb9r. it's probably a bent shift fork, that seemed pretty common on the earlier years.
