Well i am going Saturday to look/buy a 2003 Firebolt and was just wondering are there any trouble areas in the motor/trans area with these or are they pretty much the same as 04+ 9Rs? Also i have been searching around the forum and couldn't find any info on the 03-04+ belt swap, if anyone has a link to a thread on this and maybe a how-to it would help me allot. If there are any other pointers you would like to throw in feel free to do so as i am always learning new things every day on this forum and am eternally grateful to everyone here :) As for the bike its self it is White XB9R with what looks to be the race kit and has 6,2XX miles.

Depending on when it was built it may have the belt swap from the dealer already. You can have the vin run by a dealer to check.

The belt upgrade is completely unnecessary.

The '03 belts wer susceptible to damage from 3 forces:
1) bending too tightly in the direction of it's natural shape
2) bending backwards
3) bending to the side

#1 and #2 often happen when someone tries to pack a spare belt on the bike for a trip, #3 happens VERY often when someone remove the rear wheel.

If someone has mishandled the belt previously, you may not know it for a while, and the belt will break. Wait until then to decide if you want to upgrade to the '04+ system or simply replace the belt. The '04 system is not cheap: '04 BELT . I can replace my belt 3 times before I end up with that much invested!

If you do not go to the '04 system, I highly suggest:
1) ALWAYS store a spare belt in it's factory box, laid flat on a shelf.
2) Be VERY cautious when removing/replacing the rear wheel. It's not difficult, just pay attention and do not bend the belt off to the side.

You should get many happy miles by doing this!

Sounds good I will call and get the vin then go to the harley stealership and get it checked and also see if it had the headlight recall done. If everything checks out saturday I will finally be able to join the buell comunity :D

I have my belt on my '03 xb9s since the begining with no problems. Check for oil leaks around rocker boxes and also check for the forks leaks.
Good luck with your purchase!

Yeah for $540 ill wait it out and if I have any problems in the future there is always this option

Bike sold. Oh well on to the next one :D found a 06 xb12scg by me for 4000 with 16xxx on it I'm gonna check it out this weekend and see where it goes.
