Does anyone have an easier way to remove belt guards from an 03 xbr. The way the manual explains it seems like a pain in the ass.

Explain your hammer experience. I don't really know if I should remove them, it just looks so much cleaner.

Lol. So you can't think of another way even if I made some special tools to take them off. Right now I have no way to jack my bike up in my basement. Also really don't want to take my rear tire off until I have to change my rear tire.

When i took mine off, the back tire came off. But i figured i should put something to protect the passenger so i modded the guard a little.

Not much protection, but its something.

for what it is worth,
I had no prob getting at the lower guard bolts and then I just removed the swing arm support brace to gain access to the upper guard bolts
no need to remove the wheel

So what can I all remove before I have to destroy it? I'm looking at this ugly thing and don't really know where to start.

So I finally got around to removing the belt guard. After hitting my head on the peg about 5 times and using the dremel tool I got that SOB off. With it removed the back of the bike looks so much cleaner. Now I have to figure out what I need to polish the rear pulley lip. Any suggestions?

glad you got that sh!t off, the pulley is coated pretty thick so go aggressive if you want to make short work of it.

sand paper works well, start coarse and knock off the coating then finish with some finer grit to achieve your desired sheen:)

just did mine with a die grinder and 2" scotch brite medium discs, took all of 30 seconds
