03 xb9r oil change

i had the mechanic down the road change sparks and oil for me this morning...i saw him drain oil from two plugs, one near the swing arm above the exhaust and another under the shifter on the left side...however, i watched him only put oil into one spot and that was on top of the swing arm...does this sound right?...excuse my ignorance but this is my first bike and am really not that familiar with mechanical things period...

No. The plug near the shifter is the primary, and it needs 1qt of fluid funneled in.

There is a primary inspection cover with 3 bolts (t27). Put the bike on a stand, download an owners manual above and check the level asap.

I just changed my oil yesterday and yes, like everyone else said, you need oil in the primary too. Do you guys just put the whole quart in or just until the oil reaches the bottom of the gear like the book says? Mine didn't take a whole quart..

Its approx 1 qt. If you drain every oz of fluid out, it should take 0.95 qt or something. I put in 1 qt and it was perfect.

hey guys, thanks for your responses...i ended up getting in touch with an old buddy of mine that has had some contact with these buells during a short stint as a indy moto mech and echoed prety much everyone on here...luckily i only live .25 mile from the mech who drained the primary and had him refill it...i paid my tab and mentioned it to his boss the next week after he came back from vacay and he refunded my money...lesson learned i guess, don't let a car mech work on your bike...thanks again!

Whoa guys, maybe you missed him adding the primary oil? Did he remove a small black plastic cover from the primary case?

Read on this site about oil changes and get a grasp so you do it yourself.There is a ton of stuff on what type of oil and how to do it all...

DIY is about the only way to go with our bikes, IMO the only time I would let someone else touch my bike is in the case it needs specialty tools, but even then I would almost rather buy them and do the job on my own.

I know some of you dont have a garage to work out of but in a case like this always know what you are having done (do your homework) and make sure it is done properly[up]
