1000 mi check up

I recently purchased (april 2013) a 2009 xb9sx. I recently hit 1000 mi crazy! I love diy work but would it be a good idea to take it to harley... or can i just check it all myself? Btw im talking about the 1000 mi chck up the manual recommends. Any help appreciated.

Run from HD as fast as possible and do it yourself as outlined in the manual. That is unless you *want* to overpay for a job that will take too long and be done incorrectly (?).

the XB is incredibly easy to perform maintenance on. i would drop both the engine and trans/primary oil at 1000 miles to be safe as well as oil filters. check fasteners for tighness, check battery terminals for tightness, any quality 20-50 oil @ 2.5 quarts for motor is fine, i posted complete list of all filters that fit, and i've found thru the years that Amsoil 20-50 motorcycle oil or Amsoil #75 gear oil in the primary is excellent for smooth shifting and long trans life. it holds 1 quart. try and drain both warm and let drain for an hour or so for best results.

Make sure yo udo both, if you leave either one on for longer than 3000 miles the bikes tune goes out of wack fast.

one of the genuinely nicest guys you'll ever deal with and a new member of the AMA hall of fame to boot. when you install that muffler make sure to take 2-3 twenty mile loop rides at partial throttle, no super steep long hills, just relatively easy riding to let the ECM adjust to the new temps and back pressure.

Is this on top of the initial throttle sync, since its a 2009? And thanks for the help!

If by "throttle sync" you mean resetting the TPS for the bike?... I would say yes... And the TPS reset procedure for your 09 is very easy... Basically you turn the key on, open and close the throttle three times (stopping at full open and full closed for about one second), and you're done IIRC... I don't 100% remember if you start doing that with the throttle at fully open or fully closed... Normally I would search this up but as I'm posting from my crappy phone and not a computer well.... Somebody will chime in if I'm wrong lol
