Oil level, im never sure if put too much oil in or not enough, it really worries me that I may be running too high or too low, ive heard a couple of ways to check I.E running it for awhile turning it off wait a few minutes keep it upright and check blah blah but eerytime I check I hardly see any oil on the stick and ive put it a lot more then recommended with just the simple oil change, no new filter or removing the screen, also everytime I shut my bike off and go in for the night I come out the next morning and notice a new oil spot, nothing big just a little drop every morning, my garage is starting to look like a spotted cow, any idea? also any clues on if I have too much / not enough oil? will a light come on the dash?

thanks for any advice

I put in just shy of 3 quarts without filter change, 3 with a filter change and call it a day.

Might help if ou figured out where the oil Is coming from, shouldn't be leaking. Could it be your clutch acuator, leaking brake fluid.

the clutch side is your 'right leg side' while riding. Check your drainplugs. You need to replace the drainplug washers everytime you change oil. They are 'crush' type washers. I ride bike a few miles, let it sit a couple minutes upright while Im sitting on it, reach down and unscrew dipstick to check it, and mine is usually right at the lines.

Thanks texas, I think you may be right. it looks like its dripping almost down the kickstand and out of the left side drainplug, I never remember any washers for that plug, Thinking about doing another oil change letting it sit and draining all the oil out both sides and the filter, not the screen. any idea on where to get new washers for that? and drainplugs? already checked buellparts.com no luck.

Also another stupid question im sure. it doesn't hurt to change the oil a lot right? like more then recommended? besides killing the pocket book, it cant hurt anything right?

actually now that I look at it further its on the shiter too :S and all down the kickstand. I think it may be getting worse :S ugh I changed my stator/rotor last year I hope its not coming out of the stator case? Im pretty sure I sealed that up pretty damn tight.

I got my washers from www.AmericanSportBike.com. Al and JoAnn are great people. They are like $1 a piece and they have all kinds of stuff for buells, AND great thing is they are located in the great USA. (Vista,CA)

Ive bought from them before, very nice to deal with. i just hope thats the problem but i think i may have over tightened the drainplug on that side but the leak does appear higher :S so confused

I would spray degreaser all over engine, let it sit a bit, spray it down with the garden hose (no high pressure) and then check it again around the stator case cover, oil filter cover, drainplugs, etc. and see what you see. Good luck. ML

thanks for the advice, I just drained all the oil out and am waiting for a new filter. I spraye the whole engine area down with brake cleaner and sprayed it down immediatly. it took out all the old oil all over the kickstand area and shifter. Just waiting for my new filter and washers. my aluminum washer on the stator side looked really rough and ******, im hoping thats the problem i guess ill find out in a few days after i get my stuff and fill her up again.

You do have your rubber gasket in for the oil filter right? Your should replace that to. I know i forgot to fully tighten the oil filter bolts and i had oil in the same places because my rubber gasket want on all the way.

hmm thank you ill remember that when i replace the filter tomorrow. thank you it could very well be leaking there too.
