Hey fellas,

New to the forum here. Looking for a bit of friendly advice. I found a guy who's selling a 2009 R with 8k miles. It's completely stock except the tail-light. Now he wants 6300 for it. It's Hawaii so I don't expect to get a great price, everyone holds out here for most they can get, makes sense with shipping costs and such.

Anyway, I actually like the CR front end more. There is a dealership here that has a 2010 CR with only 1000 miles but they're asking way too much. Like 8500 or something.

My wife, being the smart one asked if I couldn't just buy the front end for the CR online and swap it out on the R. I see the mirrors are a little different and could be an issue.

What should I do? Is it easy to swap out the headlight assembly?

Thanks,
Phil

If you can, ask about the electrical issues on the 09. If they've been fixed right I would go for it and look into the cr front swap. If not I would expect to eventually fixing it (750-800 bucks). I got an 09 with 2k on it for $5000 but I expect to fix the charging issues when the time comes. Good luck keep us posted

09+ 1125's have an issue with the stators overheating and failing. (it will fail, it's just a matter of time)

The option to fix it correctly is from erikbuellracing or twin cycles as they have an updated stator design. But, as noted will run you ~$800 to do so.

Ok,

The guy said he just had some electrical component of the bike fixed a few months back. Can't remember what he said it was, but he said it cost him about 1k to get it fixed.

I am guess your options are pretty limited over he HI when buying a buell lol

Anyways, if he has had the stator/charging issue dealt with be sure and see some kind of proof of that. Saw you're screen name PA.. thought maybe you were in Pennsylvania...was going to offer you my 08 1125 :)

If you want a cr front on an R you either have to buy the whole front end of a cr like the triple tree or you'll have to drill into your r tree and mirrors just but bar end mirrors the and cr handle bars are more confertable and the r is more a crotch rocket feel with a split tree. Clipon handle bars. If go the dealer ship and just be the **** out of there price because its just way easier to just buy a cr. the cr also has lower gear ratio. They both are going to have electoral problems. But if that guy says he put a 1000 into it. It may be fixed but don't believe them cause the guy I bought my bike said the same thing. Sorry if this is all confusing. I just have alot to say. And at the dealer when you talk about price use the electrical problem as your main point and try walking away a few times cause trust me dealerships always have more room to drop price (unless your buying a jeep wrangler) and they hate people walking out the door. And 6300 sounds high to me but if your in Hawaii that doesn't sound like a bad price sense it's already there. If you want more info you can text me i love the 1125s and have owned and sold a few. If you have any more questions text me i have tons of more info about them. 402-990-9488 good luck. [up]

for $1K it got a stator. I also have an '09 1125r, bought it with 4200 on it from Bumpus Harley Davidson in Murphreesboro, TN. I live in Indianapolis, IN. Drove down there, bought it, trailered it (it was February 2012), backed it out of the trailer and the battery light stayed on at idle. I immediately knew what it needed. To make a long story short, I made them pay for the repair and they willingly did (which tells me they knew). I saw the bill when I picked it up and it was about $1200-1400. Since it's been fixed, I wouldn't have any other bike. It's absolutely amazing. Tons of power and a real head turner. I would highly recommend.
