Hello everyone. New to this forum, but have seen looked around and there is some awesome stuff here. I am looking at buying a 2003 Blast off craigslist. The owner says it has 2500 miles on it, but it needs a new clutch cable and throttle cable. Is this normal? Seems to be a little early to need replacing... Could this be a bad sign?

Also, are these repairs something I can do on my own fairly easily? I consider myself pretty handy and do most all the maintenance on my cars and scooter. I am definitely opposed to bringing things to a dealer when I can handle them myself. Any preferred places for buying parts? Dealer? Online?

Finally, anything I should look for when looking at the bike?

Oh yeah, the price is $800. I think that is a pretty good price, but I guess it all depends on the condition the bike is actually in...

Thanks for any help guys.

If you don't buy it for $800, I will.

The cables are not normal. I'm at ~12k with stock cables. I wouldn't consider bad cables to be a bad sign, just take note that the previous owner didn't care for them so make sure you check everything else over with a fine tooth comb.

Working on this motorcycle is like working on a lawnmower; take off a little plastic and everything is right there for you.

2003 w/2500 miles for $800.00? Hell- run, don't walk to buy it! (just be sure he has good good title) Cables are an easy fix, but if they are bad at 2500 miles, the bike was probably not garaged. In addition to the cable, if you buy it,right out of the gate, change engine oil & filter, tranny oil, and carb boot.

Thats a great price for such a low mileage bike. That also means it hasn't been ridden a lot - like 270 miles a year. Thats far less that I put on in one leisurely weekend on some of my bikes. Ask him about the cables, oil, tranny. Check out condition of boot. If it starts, seems to run well on test ride. Take it and run. Thats a steel unless their is something hidden.
