Ok guys, i am nearing a buyer for my 2001 Blast, which means i will be able to bring my 2003 XB9 home from my local dealer probably this week, or the beginning of next week. the HD dealer has already done all the maintenance for the bike and it is guaranteed from their shop, but at 15k miles, are there any types of things i should EXPECT to go wrong or need to replace? the dealer didnt go into the engine by the way, they just changed the oil, trans fluid, tires, belts, etc. outside stuff. what typically goes wrong with these bikes first?

Stators I beleive? There were charging issues but if someone in the know has had the bike they might have already changed it! Also the Fuel pump is another! Mine only has 8k on the clock and already needs a fuel pump!!

I think the 2003's had a different drive belt/pulley setup that was prone to failure. Fuel pumps I think typically only go bad if run low on fuel often (fuel lubricates and cools the pump). There's some issues here and there with all these buells but put a little time and a little-er money into them and they are great. I've had mine for about 1.5 years and put a little money into it (mostly cosmetic stuff) and a little time and it has been very reliable considering the last owner really didn't take care of it at all.

Oh I think 2003 also had the kickstand safety switch that often causes issues. Most just upgrade to the later stand (cheap). Same with the belt/pulley issue, most just upgrade to the later setup.

how much am i looking to spend for the voltage regulator and stator? i have had some sleds and those were kinda pricey to replace on :/

Inspect your 2 oil cooler lines first thing. The 03' Steel braided lines rub together and creat a hole in both lines. Happened to mine and everyone else I know with one. If they look good, create some kind of spacer to separate the lines and zip tie it to hold. Or, if they are on the way out, get the new kit that comes with 2 new lines and a new, built in plastic spacer. 125.00 for the new kit.

the oil cooler on this has just plain ol' rubber lines! it also has new tires, D&D exhaust, new headlight bulbs, fresh oil and fluids, fresh brake pads, and bosh plugs! i talked them down 400$ so when all is said and done (title & plate transfer, taxes, docking fees, etc), 3400$ out the door! Fox River Harley Davidson in St. Charles IL. still gonna try to get some free **** though. at least a shirt or a mug or something!

You'd probably want to switch to the NGK iridium plugs and you can go a heat range colder. This made a big difference on my bike. That's cheap and easy after you buy it though, just an FYI.

Since you have rubber oil lines, sounds like they've been replaced. I wonder if they are secure or rigged...

they are secure. the bike has had some work done to it before the dealer received it. they have actually only had it for about 3 weeks now (its mine though! already payed!) it passed full inspection, leaks no oil, etc. seems like a steal. 3400$ the door. whaddya think?

it was very difficult to ride after i heard them start the engine. hard to get comfortable ;)
