I’m selling my 2005 Buell XB9SX Lightning CityX as I have "upgraded" to a 1998 Honda VFR800 as this bike suits my touring duties far better. In a perfect world I'd keep both bikes, but I have to make the financially smart decision and the Buell has to go :-(. I’m the second owner as far as I know and this bike has been well maintained. This bike has been well maintained by me and should pass inspection without issue. This bike is stock except for the Magura Hydraulic Clutch Kit from American Sport Bike mentioned below.

19057 miles on the odometer – this may go slightly up as it gets ridden occasionally.

This is no longer my daily transportation and it's sitting in a friend's garage.

$3500 OBO

Modifications:
- Has the Buell low “skyline” seat with the grippy texture. I believe this was a factory option.
- K&N Air Filter
- Knight Design front and rear axle sliders (these allow the use of a front/rear stand.
- Buell Factory Frame Sliders (These came standard on the newer 2008+ models)
- Magura Hydraulic Clutch Conversion Kit from American Sport Bike. I loved this mod as it makes the clutch feel 100% better and always perfectly adjusted.
- Domino grips
- Removed the stock hand guards (which I have) – these don’t fit with the Hydraulic Clutch Kit.
- Replaced original kickstand with the Buell upgraded part. There was a known issue with the kickstands on the 2005 models where the pivot bolt that attaches the kickstand to the frame was known to break. The upgraded part fixes this problem.

The Bad:
- Bike was knocked over in the garage by the previous owner and a small area of paint was scraped off the tail section.
- There is a scratch on the lens of the instrument cluster. I would have replaced the lens but Buell/HD doesn't make a replacement, you can only buy the entire cluster.
- There is a small oil leak on the rear cylinder. This is a known issue with most Buell XB9’s and the air-cooled thunderstorm motors in general. Not enough to worry about.
- Bike was dropped by me turning out of a parking space and fell over on the right side. Right side peg snapped off and has been replaced with an OEM one. There is a scrape on the front and rear axle spools on the right side as well as a scrape on the right side bar end.

I have many extras that go with this bike:
- Brand new Owner’s Manual for this year/model
- Factory Service Manual for 2005 Lightning models
- Factory parts catalog for 2005 Lightning models (this was very hard to find but is great for doing your own work as it has exploded views of all the parts on the bike with part numbers).
- Mobile 1 V-Twin Oil, Buell OEM Filter to do an Engine Oil & Primary Oil change.
- Brand new clutch lever and clamp for using a factory cable clutch. The original lever, clamp and cable wore out, I was planning to replace with another cable clutch but decided I was going to go Hydraulic instead.
- Original stock hand guards (these don’t fit with the Hydraulic clutch kit)
- Brand new never used Nelson Riggs Tank Bag
- Brand new OEM Spark Plugs (current ones are fine but they could be changed)
- Brand new Buell Primary Cover Gasket
- Brand new Buell Rubber End for Shifter
- Brand new Clutch Inspection Cover Gasket
- Brand new Clutch Cover Gasket
- Brand new Kickstand Spring
- Brand new Hella H7 Headlight bulb
- Brand new Aftermarket handlebar mirror mounts.
- Brand new Buell Clutch Cable wire basket.
- Old kickstand that was replaced.
- Other misc hardware and o-rings for the bike.

Hi Floundertoad,
PM sent. I would like to get in touch with you. I am in PA and interested in the bike.
Thanks!

Thanks guys for the interest so far - I've got at least one person checking the bike out this weekend. I took the bike out for a spin last weekend and almost didn't want to sell it. It's such a fun bike for hitting the backroads.

My Subaru blew its motor and will probably be in the shop till winter getting a new motor built. I was using this Buell as my primary transportation for a while. The Honda VFR800 I got recently just fits my lifestyle better at the moment, throw some hard bags on it and go get groceries and with a windscreen its not nearly as fatiguing on the highway. Besides I've got a supermoto for when I want to be a hooligan!

I'd really be curious how a firebolt compares to the xb9sx. Also does anyone know if the Buells that have the longer frame have more fuel capacity? With the xb9sx I seem to get 100 miles when the light comes on and probably have another 20 or so until its dry.

longer models don't have longer frames, but longer swingarms. you can put a firebolt front on your bike and a taller/highway windscreen and it bolcks a lot of wind. Also yours is an 05' which is the last year they left the hole in the frame so any model after that has a larger gas tank due to that being closed up and used for fuel
