So after finding out that the splines on the end of my crankshaft are junk from the previous owner running the bike for too long with out having the sprocket tight I am now in the process of replacing the crankshaft.

I've got the engine out and on my work bench. Couple of questions though...

1. can I replace the crankshaft with a used one and just drop my pistons on the used crankshaft and rods without balancing the assembly?

2. Is there anything I should know before splitting the case? Never had a bike engine apart but I am a automotive mechanic by profession so Im not too nervous about do the work.

3. Is there an online manual that I can download somewhere?

Thanks!

There's a manual on here that you can download for free...

As far as the crank and piston questions, I can't offer much advice on that... I've only done single cylinder 4 and 2 stroke rebuilds from the crankshaft out and if I'm not 100% sure on any advice I don't just spit it out... Good luck with the crank swap man!!... Happy wrenching =)...

Thanks for the heads up on the manual! That was a great help. I got the engine torn down and the crankshaft out. Everything else inside the transmission and engine look great. Its a real shame that the previous owner was such a tool.

Now Im going to take the crank in to see if it can be fixed or if I need to replace it.

Where are you guys buying your gasket sets? I was going to use the Cometic set since that seems like the best one. Just curious who's go the best price.

Not sure how to post a picture here but does anyone have a picture of the timing marks for the camshafts? I think I have it correct according to the service manual but I'll like to be sure!

Thanks
