For sale is my 2009 Buell XB12Scg Lightning. The cg is the lowered model (good for shorter riders or those who like low bikes) and this one is the all blacked out version - super cool and pretty hard to find any more. I bought the bike in 2012 from the original owner with 2000 miles on it. I rode it for about one year and put 10,000 more miles on it when it developed a noise in the trans. I'm 90% sure that it's a bearing on the output shaft. It's been parked for two years and is currently non-op with the DMV. I have a clean and clear CA title in my name. Bike is in 9.5 out of 10 condition aesthetically. Never been dropped, never been crashed. It's 100% bone stock - no mods whatsoever. No problems except for the bad trans bearing.

If the bike were in 100% condition with no bearing problem, I'd say it'd easily be worth $5500-$6000. The verbal quote I got from a local Harley repair shop to fix the bearing was $2000. Asking price: $3500. This is a good deal for someone who doesn't mind taking on this project themselves. Parts wise, you'd be into it for gaskets and the bearing.

I had put a new battery in the bike right before I decided to park it and it's pretty dead. With a fresh battery, the bike will start right up and can be ridden. If you want to come check it out, bring a battery and a helmet (and cash) and take it for a ride. I also have a Buell cover for it and a Pitbull rear stand. Open to offers that start with "3" and have three other numbers behind it. I absolutely will not reply to "how low will you go" emails so don't bother sending them. No trades - I already have another bike that replaced this one. Thanks for looking.

I'm open to reasonable offers.

How hard did you ride your motorcycle? Do you think the bearing output shaft failure is because of hard acceleration?

It fails because of poor service intervals. Usually see this on 04/05 & more than 25k miles.
Does the front drive pulley rock back & forth?

I'll make some offers later in the year if it doesn't find a new home by then.

It has to be corrosion in the bearing behind the pulley i mean look at pics 6 and 7 i know pulleys rust but mate its even stained the belt! i would pop out the end seal and squirt 5mls of engine oil into that bearing using a syringe and see if it quietens down before you sell it too cheap! over here Maz makes a machined disc with a grease nipple in the middle that directly replaces that seal so you can lube it as its a known problem over here in the winter with all the sh1t and road salt etc! i hope its just that and its not too late for the bearing if it is that! good luck!

How much to fix? I'd do it myself but don't have time or desire to. I'd consider paying someone to fix it and then keeping the bike.

This isn't a 04/05 and I changed the engine and trans oil ever 5k with hd syn. If you do some searching around you'll see this is actually a common problem for 09 xb12's and same year sportsters and even some of the big bikes. Some of the hd's were fixed under warranty/recall. It's a bad design. The bearing doesn't get enough lube plus the bearing is a piece of junk. The bike was on its second regular oil change. Don't give me BS about bad maintenance intervals.

The sprocket is rusty because the bikes been sitting in my shop by the ocean for two years. Corrosion didn't cause the bearing to fail.

So you are sure the bearing has gone? buy a replacement seal (cheap and simple) pull the old one and look, they get minimal lubrication at the best of times and the pulley rusts from behind too remember. Sorry not trying to bully you but i personally wouldnt sell it without doing that 5 second check. Gently push a hole in the centre of the seal (its only rubber in the centre) and gently lever it out, the new one gently taps in flush. If its not that you have lost nothing, in fact if its not i will send you by paypal the cost of the seal, seriously!!

Someone needs to steal this for $3000!

And just to be clear you know you gotta split the cases to service the trans right? This generation of sportster motor doesn't have the trap door trans.

Not to get off topic but I wouldn't insult your XB by saying it has a sportster engine. Yes, the older tube frame Buells have a modified sportster engine but the XB platform is totally unique.
Maybe I'm way off base. I just don't like XBs being referenced as sportsters in anyway.
I'd also like to point out that Crash is one of the original gurus! I'd trust him with my bike!

So what you're saying is that every engine that has a "V" design of some sort and is air cooled is a sportster engine. Interesting that the XB engines and transmissions share very little to no parts with the sportster.
