Just starting to work on the 2007 Uly I’ll be selling soon. It’s been sitting in the back corner of the garage for about a year needing a clutch cable. As I’m working on it I noticed a black rear axle. “That’s weird. Only the 3 bearing wheel has a black axle. The others are all silver.” I looked at the other 3 Buells I have in the garage, and yup…all silver.
That damn black axle kept nagging at me, so at 11:15 at night I decided to pull the wheel. I was already in the garage and dirty, and curiosity killed the cat.
Guess what I found? I wasnt sure until I heard the “tink” as the washer fell out of the brake side while removing the wheel. Only the 3 bearing wheel has the washer. (I've since been informed that only the 3 bearing wheel has dust seals, and the 3 bearings are larger w/ smaller lips on the wheel).
Why am I kicking my own ass instead of being overjoyed at the find?
The 2nd picture is the brand new 3 bearing wheel I purchased a few months ago. It’s still in the original box. I installed the bearings and spacer only a few days ago. I have about $900 in this wheel between the wheel and the axle / spacer / bearing kit from St Paul…all while I had one tucked away in the corner.
