So I'm taking a tour around the bike the other day. Background: bought the 2008 buell blast as my first bike from a harley dealer, with 1,900 miles maintained by the dealership and used as training bike. It's been riding great. Has some trouble starting up in the cold no biggy.

Now I came across what you will see in the images something concerning. I don't know a lot about motorcycles at all but it appears to be a throttle cable? If that's the correct name for this cable that looks insanely mangled. Bike revs and rides fine but due to its condition I'm worried this thing is gonna snap on me while riding it and it will then leave me stranded. Does anyone know the name of this cable that I need for the replacement, how did this happen, where I could get another one, and how easy is it to replace? Thank you for reading.

You didn't upload the pictures. But if it'sa cable going to the carb and is frayed you need to change that out beforeit breaks. It won't cause damage to anything but may leave you stranded

Just replace it, easy and cheap. What your concerning problem really is though is all that oil everywhere. Should not be there.

I already purchased some universal cable for like $4 that's about 45 inches long but it has this black rubber coat on it, so I'm not sure I got the right one. I mentioned on the site I got it from that I had a buell blast and that's what it recommended.

i would replace that throttle cable before you ride it as it looks as if its on its last leg.
also while your in there doing that might wanna see if you can figure out where the oil is all coming from.

The oil was done by myself when the throttle was sticking a bit. The oil came out too fast and got everywhere. I cleaned up the majority of it. Did I cause a bigger issue with the oil?

How often would I need to replace the cable? I don't think the one I purchased is the right one. Is it a pain to replace?

Easy to replace, just pay attention to how it is routed,so you can route new cable thru the same way. Theres no real time frame for a cable,One of my bikes had 30xxx miles and it did just like yours.

That throttle cable will not work. Either buy the correct cable new from a dealer or American Sportbike or search ebay for a new/used one.

I'm reading on Americansportbike.com at the cables for the blast. It mentions the throttle and idle cables and that it's a good idea to replace both at the same time. Now is the cable that's withering on my bike is that the idle cable and can I just replace that?
