So I have a 92 CR125 that has a fresh top end and whatnot. I've ben riding it almost every day until a few weeks ago. It stood for about 2 weeks and now the clutch won't fully disengage when in gear. I've tried adjusting the cable and new gear oil (old oil was black,) and it's still doing it. Any ideas? I'm trying to sell it so I'd like to fix it first.

The bike in question .. if anyone is interested

This happened to me on my 97 rm 250 and I couldn't figure out wtf was wrong. I wound up taking the clutch plates out and 4 of them were stuck together. So I took them apart and soaked them in oil overnight. Put it all back together the next day and it's been fine.

On the big bore 4 strokes the outter clutch basket will get notched where the fibers rest against it. Pull the clutch cover and pull the clutch apart, check the putter basket for notching. Temporary fix is to file down the lip with a dremel or metal file.

Thanx guys ..

batman I'll give it a go tomorrow night. Never taken a clutch apart though...

infamous .. I'll try to post pics tomorrow night.

You really should put the chain guards back on before you get debirs all off up in the spockets and motor area.

:D juskidn

Really easy. Pull the cover off, there is 5 or 6 bolts with springs that hold the inner basket on. Pull the fiber and metal plates out and put them in order that you pull them. That's all you have to do.

I soaked all the discs in oil overnight and it did help. But it's still doing it just a little bit. If it doesn't sell in a few weeks then I'll just make a winter project out of it since I'll be on the road for several months.

The clutch in question .. all the steel plates look like this.

The pressure plate seems to have grooves on it

And the basket itself

Do you have a pic of the clutch/friction plates? It should be number 13 in the diagram. This is just a reference diagram of a clutch not the clutch in question.

yeah if you still have it aprt and can get a side depth view of it that would be helpful. Is the bike fixed now. I saw you said it was better.

I've got it all back together now. Ya it is better. Appreciate the help [up]

If it doesn't sell in a few weeks then I'll just leave it alone for now cuz I'm gonna be working in Texas..

Where are you at and how much? If it were me I would change out the friction plates. They do look worn. IMO.

See the basket picture where the B is on buellxb.com, notice the notches on that edge where the fibers rest? That is the edge that needs to be filed because the notches are keeping the fibers from being able to be separated.

Gotchya .. I'll give it a shot when I have some time
