When I parked my Buell Friday, I must have turned the key to “Park” instead of “Lock.” That drained the battery. Went out to Autozone and picked up an MC battery charger. Took until Sunday to finish charging. At least I got out for a short ride Sunday.

That is easy to do! I don't really think that parking-light thing is such a good idea. When I went to the dealer to test ride/buy my bike, someone had done the same thing to the only xb12r they had in stock at the time. They couldn't get it charged or jumped. I ended up driving about 45 minutes to another dealer and bought my bike that day (That's how I roll[cool]). Anyway, parking light snafu cost them a sale.

I hope your battery is still ok. Sometimes once they're spent, they don't recover very well.

Done it twice now on a 3yr old battery and it still works fine. It does suck when your ready to go somewhere and you go to turn the key and you get that oh shit feeling when you realize its been left on.

I wish Optima made a Red Top for my Buell. The Optima in my Jeep is awesome. One tough Muthah.

God, I did this in a mall parking lot, when I went for the midnight release of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2. Came out after getting the game and I just wanted to go home and play with friends. Luckily the roadside assistance on my insurance was helpful and they sent a guy out. Took 45 minutes of waiting on the curb, but he jumped me and I was able to ride home that night.

Whoa, Midnight release for a video game? The only thing I'm waiting in line for at midnight is BOOZE.

i did that once parked outside my house, only i switched the wires so both headlights are on hi beam which makes one headlight come on in park mode. it wouldn't start after an hour

I've never once had a use for a parking light. I've never really been sure what it was there for. The only time I think I'd ever think to turn it on is if I ran out of gas or something on the highway, and had to park my bike on the shoulder. I may leave the light on while I walk to the exit for gas so no one pulls on the shoulder and plows through my bike, but I'd do it with the understanding that if I'm gone long the battery will be dead.

I guess if you were running into a store and parking in a dark parking lot you could pull in front end first and leave the light on, but I always back in since the front of the bike is easier to see anyway.

Any one actually USE their parking light??

The only practical application that I can think of is if you have the LED color pods on your bike and you're at a car/bike show and you want to show off.

i did that once at work working over time(late 2am) luckliy there was one other guy that left a few minutes after i did so i got him to jump start the bike with his car , lucky that he jumper cables .

+1 on the optima, fishgutz , i have one in all my cars. best bateries. they need to make one for bikes. the EBR bateery is cool but cost to much for me right now, wonder what the life on the ebr battery is expected.

oh i almost forgot ... and i had another homer moment myself when i tried to make it home on low fuel ran out of gas about 2 miles from my town coming home from work one night, called my gf to bring some gas ( had some gas in the gas can for the mower just enough to get me the gas station).. the parking light came in handy for me , I would fip on the parking light when i would see a big Diesel flying up towards me ( i was on the shoulder of the road) it got them to change lanes into the far lane , away from me.
