I find checking the oil level is something I need to do about 2-3 times a month, and I need to add about 50-100mL about 2-3 times before my next oil change. Where is the oil going and why is it going there so fast?

Amsoil 20w50, 2-3k mile intervals, 2.5q engine, 1q primary. Checking on the side stand, after a long ride, on a flat surface, about 4 minutes after the engine is turned off.

two things here: one is that you are checking your oil precisely as it should be checked to ensure some sort of accuracy. and two...your oil consumption is miniscule and of no concern. let's use the maximum consumption parameter according to your figures: you are adding approx. 3 ounces (100mL) of oil 3X between oil changes. nine ounces consumption between changes is absolutely nothing to be concerned with. these are air-cooled motors and i personally consider a consumption rate of 8 ounces per 1000 miles to be normal. IMO

I need to add up to a pint (That would be 'around' 500ml) sometimes between oil changes depending on how hard I've been pushing it.

2nd that.

it varies quite a bit.

ive never had any noticeable oil consumption. not on the original engine, so far not on my latest rebuild.

that being said, i always mate the rings riding the crap outta it for the 1st 30-40 miles on a fresh engine. rotella during that time, rotella again for 500mi, then back to amsoil.

You might be burning it, what year bike and mileage?
2009 Xb12. 9K. The bike runs great.

How frequently do you add oil in the transmission?
I do not add primary oil in between changes, and I change both oils every change.

dont forget the pcv vapor
Come to think of it, I do drain about 5-10mL of fluid from my engine breather reroute about every 300 miles. I'm not sure what the exact composition of that fluid is though.

Thank you, that is reassuring. I'm just going to keep checking in regular intervals, and adding when necessary. That is easy to do.
