air box cover ?

i'm sorry if this question has already been answered but im pretty new to this forum. i have a 2005 xb12r and really want to change the air box cover to the translucent air box that the lightning has. the website says it fits 06 and later firebolts, so my question is what is the difference between the 05 and 06 and is it something i can mod to make it fit? any help would be very welcome. and i'd like to add that i love this forum i've read thru alot of threads so far and everyone seems really cool. well thanks in advance.

Here's the difference, '06-Later have the mesh around gas filler. Still, like Joe said, it may be fine.
