Just got back from a long morning driving around trying to find a new air filter and apparently the only way to get one around here is to order them(really didn't want to have to deal with any down time from the bike :D)

so what i was wondering is I saw they had those tall cone shaped filters in stock that a few of the guys on here use at regular auto stores and i wanted to know if there were any major modifications needed to install them or if they just slip right on? (really not looking to spend a couple hundred on a cable and fuel maps at the moment...)

haha alright. i guess ill have to wait an entire day or two ;)

but now that my interest is piqued, i am curious to know more about those thin filters. they looked kind of like forcewinder filters?

It will not work unless you make a velocity stack for the filter to mount to, have you ever looked at the stock rubber velocity stack?

If you're talking about the cone filters, I don't think there's any benefit to them. You lose the velocity stack(not sure you really lose much there, but still) and you lose your factory air box(PITA without it for the IAT sensor and all IMO).

It'd solely be an appearance thing, you might lose some power slightly.

you know i didn't even think about that little sensor. i could definitely see a power loss without the stack though. really i just wanted a part that i could easily pick up from any auto store but not at the expense of performance

Yeah, I just bought one off Amazon for 35 too... after calling Autozone and being told they were 80 bucks...
