Does anyone else's 12 take more than 2.5qts in the swingarm [confused]

Ive done 2 oil changes during the time ive had the bike and both times I followed Dave's video to the T and my oil level is NEVER half way up the dipstick like his.

I did the oil change on sat, checked it after a long hard ride and there was just a tip of oil at the bottom of the dipstick. Added 150ml like the things says and went to bed.

Rode into work today, 45 min ride. Got here and checked, same deal, just a little more of the tip has oil on it...but def not in the XXXXXX area.

2.5qts in the swingarm. 4oz in the filter. 1qt in the primary.

Am I missing something [confused]

Are you checking your oil while the bike is upright or on the kickstand ? I check mine on the kickstand and the level shows normal. I've heard of guys checking it while holding the bike upright.

That's weird. I have an Ss and 2.5 quarts (which includes the 4 oz in the filter) gives me about 3 X's on a hot check.

It's funny in the bike industry some are checked on the side stand some are checked while the bike is straight up. You have to read the manual for each individual bike, but I have an 09 Ss and the manual says to check on the side stand hot.

I did my 1st oil change a few weeks ago and had to put in about 200ml more to get it in the middle of the dip stick.

I added another 200ml when i got home totalling 350ml over recommended. Im now at 3Xs.

Guess every motor is diff, mines just more thirsty.

I dump in all 3 quarts, I figure it will just sit in the swing arm anyway so no big deal. It isn't like you are overloading the engine.

LOL i was thinking of doing the same thing next time. What if its past the overfilled mark? isnt that bad?

Yeah, bad case is that it'll blow oil all out your crankcase breather hoses and into your airbox unless you've re-routed them.

Worse case, if there's way too much oil, it can cause too much pressure and possibly blow out seals/gaskets.

Overfilling just a half quart though, I'd say the former would be the case. Myself, I'd just fill it to the recommended level, go on a nice ride, and come back, give it a minute for the oil to drain back down and check again to see where the level is at. Then go from there. Have you done the breather re-route? If so do you have a lot of drainage?

My 04 Xb12 is checked on the kick stand while hot. I wipe off the dipstick completely and thread it in all the way then remove and check level. I try to check every 200 miles or so, and I notice that my engine uses/burns almost a quart of oil between oil changes.

Idiot tech added oil at my 1K service (I had already changed the oil), because he checked it with the bike bolt upright on the workstand. Had to suck out about a half liter.
