Hey everyone. I've been lurking these forums for a while now, studying up on mods people have done on their own. I'm usually not one to start up a conversation, this is actually my first post here. Don't have the funds ATM for a new rear tire which I desperately need, so I figured I'd make an attempt at cleaning up the tail section. This isn't much of a tutorial, but few pics of the job.

I got this job done with a Dremel, then a Black&Decker RTX because I smoked the Dremel. The B&D was only $25 bucks and I actually like it better. Also all the Dremel accessories seem to work fine with it.
I also used a sawzall, and some sandpaper. For what it is, I think it came out nice. I plan on getting it powdercoated this winter, but for now I coated it with some Rustoleum "Hammered" spray paint. It has a nice look to it and covers up imperfections well.
As for mounting the plate, all I did was buy a little bracket from the hardware store, and mounted it underneath the tail.

Compared to some of the stuff I've seen on here, I'm sure this looks like a hackjob, but what say you my fellow Buellers?

Looks good, and definitely cleans up the back end. Looks like it may at least give cars a little bit of punishment if they ever decide to rear end you. That would probably poke 2 holes in the front of their car nicely.

I need to hack up my fender too, it's way too huge at the moment, but I want to find a spare to cut up instead of chopping up mine.

Do you ever ride passengers? Pulling off the passenger pegs will help clean up the tail as well.

I was a little timid of doing it at first, but after not really being able to find an extra I just went for it.

I never thought about removing the passenger pegs. If I did, maybe the gf would stop asking to go. I very rarely take my her out on it because it's not exactly a pleasant experience!

i just throw mine on when she wants to go. only takes like 5 minutes and allen head socket. but it does look better w/o them.

I don't assume my wife has much interest, but if she ever says she wants to, I'll just bolt mine back on.

I'm waiting for a spare to chop up my tail as well, but I'm also having a hard time finding one. I thought about chopping up mine then just finding a spare in stock condition to keep around, but I know once I cut mine I'll be too lazy and cheap to want to buy another, plus chances are I'll just find one that's already cut up and that won't help.

Stang: What did you do with the battery tray in your tail? When I pulled my footpegs off I took the shorter of the bolts and bolted the batter tray down from the inside. Is there a good solution so I could just easily bolt the pegs on from the bottom without having the deal with unbolting the tray, bolting on the pegs, the getting those locknuts back on(which is a slight pain seeing as how I don't have any SAE sockets, not to mention deep socket ones yet.

I rarely have my pegs on. I do it on a ride by ride basis for friends. When I 1st took them out I didnt think about the battery, still have not thought about the battery and it has been fine.
