I got home from a short ride today and noticed the the front strap on my exhaust was loose. The nut must have come loose and vibrated off. The bolt looks like it's a 1/4, but the spare nuts I had didn't fit. I believe they were 1/4-20, although the studs on the straps look like they're fine thread. Anyone know what size nut I need? 1/4-28? I tried a 6mm nut and it was too small, so I'm assuming I need SAE hardware but it's hard to find anything other than 20tpi. I'm gonna move one of the rear straps to the front tomorrow and take the spare to sears hardware, if anywhere around here has the size I need, that's where I'll find it. If not, I'll just put a large hose clamp around the rear until I find a new strap.
Also, does that stud get too hot to use a but with the nylon locking washer built in, or should I just use a normal bolt with a locking washer, maybe some loctite? or just put on the nut by itself and keep some spares in case it happens again?
