ive loved the time ive spent with my xb9 so far, really capable bike in the mountains. lately ive had a sputter randomly and i think ive narrowed it down to the tps. ive already gone through the grounding and even added a ground from batt to coil. it started after i realized my idle was low and bumped it up to 1100. anyone around here willing to help out and make a new friend? i dont have the e spy software and am very broke so i cant really afford to take it to the dealership. this is my first post so give me a call 706 263 4606. im a mechanic and a good guy to have on your side in the automotive world, i specialize in powerstoke diesel but of course i do it all, so lets barter!

I am in ohio or I would help you out. What year is the bike? You do not have to have software for a tps reset on some model years.

i appreciated it sir, its an 03 and from what i gather it requires the software or dealership.

Yes you will have to reset digitally. Download ecm spy from ecmspy.com. If you do not already have one you will need to purchase a cable. Or you could probably make one from parts at RadioShack. They are not hard to come by. There are lots of tutorial threads and videos on YouTube showing how to set everything up. Once you get communication up and running follow these steps:

Taken from

"1. Connect vehicle to Digital Technician. (Ecm Spy--
I used the main screen for the next 3 steps)
2. Select calibrations screen/TPS Function.
3. Select Buell TPS zero tab.
4. Select TP volts on screen.
5. See Figure 1-56. Back off idle adjustment until TP volts stop decreasing and then continue to back out one full turn. (My stopped somewhere around 60v)
6. Open and snap shut throttle control grip 2-3 times.(i did this throughout backing off the screw for a constant check, because it seemed to jump sometimes)
NOTE
This is to ensure that the throttle plate is completely closed before beginning recalibration.
7. With ignition and run switch in the on position with engine off and throttle in the closed position press the TPS zero button at the bottom of the screen.(reset TPS button under Diagnostics tab in ecm spy)
8. Select TPS zero button and perform TPS zero.
NOTE
When calibration is complete, dialogue box will appear on Digital Tech screen with message display “Command SentSuccessfully”. Press OK. (you don't get this, just a confirm prompt from ecmspy to reset)
-- BACK TO THE MAIN SCREEN--I USUALLY HAVE TO CONNECT AGAIN(CLICK THE KEYS) WHEN SWITCHING BACK TO THIS TAB--MAKE SURE YOU"RE CONNECTED BEFORE TURNING THE IDLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW --
9. Turn idle adjustment cable screw clockwise until TPS DEGREES read 5.2-5.6 degrees.
10. Run vehicle until engine temperature is at 320 °F (160° C). (mine ran rough at first but it got better as the bike warmed up)
11. Set idle to 1050-1150 RPM. (mine ran 1150-1250 before I adjusted it)"

most excellent, thanks for that info, ill head over to radio shack and make one, i want it done asap. i did replace the plugs when i got the bike but the front sparkplug wire was chaffed so i wrapped it in tape. never gave me problems but im going to look into a new set of wires too.

what is the list of parts i need to make the cable? i checked and couldnt find the info.

I actually don't know. I just assumed you could find the necessary parts there. Take pictures of the ecm connector on your xb and get a diagram for the pin connections for both the bike and cable. With that information you will be able to get what you need. But it would almost be easier to buy one at that point. If I remember correctly Xopti makes his own cables. He would be the guy to talk to.

the front sparkplug wire was chaffed so i wrapped it in tape

I suggest you get that fixed asap. This could be a factor also.
