Ok guys dont kill me here. My 06 Lightning has just under 3k miles on it now. I got it with 500 miles on it. I put a jardine on shortly after i recieved the bike. Now..here goes....I have NEVER reset the TPS :( The bike runs perfectly. It doesent miss or hunt for idle. It starts easily and performs perfectly. I am not trying to save cash by not getting it done. I just dont see a need to, is there something I am missing? Should I do it anyways? The other reason I havent done it is that Buell dealers are dropping like flies around me. I had the intention of taking it in to ABC HD this spring...no longer services Buell...then it was Brighton HD...same story. Now I just dont see the point of doing it. I'll have to go over an hour away to get something done that I cant seem to find a reason for doing since its running fine.

You're probably fine but I would hope that you have good receipts on the oil changes and whatnot for your 1K service in case warranty issues come up later. My closest Buell dealer is also an hour away so I feel your pain. I'm lucky however that they offer free pickup and delivery for all service, including warranty.

whatnot for your 1K service

Ummmm yeah...never went in for that. Dont get me wrong..i'm not a cowboy or anything, but just didnt see the point. I changed the oil to Royal Purple when I got the bike. ( both clutch and primary ), checked everything over per manual....ran it 1500 miles 'ish and changed it again. Changed again before I put it away for winter ( about 1k miles )....changed it again before riding this spring...and everything is fine. I dont beat the crap outa my bike, and I think I take pretty good care of it so how will I know when it needs to be done?

If it's running great, don't worry about it. If you are worried, do ecmspy just for the tps. It will cost less than one reset at a dealer and you can't cause any harm to you motor if your not altering the map.

why do HD dealers stop service for buell ?!?

because nobody comes in to let their buell be serviced

now seriously...what are you running? just the pipe?

I was going to take it in this spring regardless, if I thought I needed it or not. Now that I have to go so far im re-considering giving them my business at all, especially if it is not needed.

Yep just the pipe now. I was considering getting the Race ECM and opening up the air box ( which I understand would definitely require a TPS reset ) but funds just arent available for all that now.

Your guess is as good as mine...mine would be because they dont know sh**...dont give a sh**...and cant be bothered learning about Buell.

qoute 1 is actually the answer to quote 3...but that was ment as a joke (clown smilie :p)

then i would leave it as is...a tps reset will not change the fact that you're running lean.
tps reset is only needed when you experiance hick-ups, bad accelerations, exhaust farts, etc...

Maybe slightly....but I didnt change the intake. The same amount of air is coming in. With the stock intake and filter the air coming into the engine should be the same. The only difference is less back pressure from a more free flowing pipe. ( hence the loss in bottom end)

yep, but since the outflow is better because of the open exhaust, more air is sucked into the cylinder ;)

do you have the emulator or do you ride with your check engine light on?

i'm not a cowboy or anything

I thought that explained it? :p Yeah I got the emulator[cool] That emulator works alot better than the piece of electrical tape I was usin to cover the check engine light :D:D:D

Emulator? Can someone explain to me what that is? I also have the Jardine on my XB12S, and also had my engine light come on when the end of the exhaust valve harness was unplugged, so I just unplugged the entire cable all the way up to the air box. The light never comes on anymore, should I not have done this? I am assuming this emulator is somthing that plugs into the end of the harness in replace of the orignal exhaust valve?

Can someone tell me if I am damaging my bike?

Replacing your exhaust has nothing to do with the need to reset your TPS. The only reason you need to reset your TPS is if you replaced your ECM, or a reset at recommended intervals to compensate for possible wear in the throttle body assembly.

Exhaust and/or intake mods do not require TPS reset.

Class dismissed.
