i have an 03 xb9r and on the highway I can be going in 5th gear at 55 or 65 mph and my bike will backfire every couple of minutes....i have the buell race kit on the bike exhaust, k&n filter and race ecm...

Is it a true backfire, or the common airbox hiccup/cough? If it's the airbox cough, do the breather re-route and it will help.

If it's a backfire, you probably need a custom map for your ECM via Xoptiinside.com or Americansportbike.com. (Having the Race ECM doesn't fully compensate for the mods, though it's a better than a stock ECM.)

Either way, a Custom map would probably solve it all.

- in your inlet or exhaust?

- while remaining @ same throttle position or on deceleration?

Here is the Breather re-route. It is quite an extensive thread, the good part (pics) starts from page 2 but I would advise you to at least skim through all of it first, you will find a recommended parts list as well as a few different ideas for placement of your filter. Hope it helps with the backfire. It will help the bike when running at lower RPM's regardless though.

buellstorm, it a long thread posted above but from what i have read yes it works on 12's and 9's. it seems to work really good. im planing on doing it this weekend.
