Upon my arrival from work this morning, I paid witness to the beginning signs of what I know as "Bug Season".

The size and putrid odor of their horrific remains will increase until such a time as the first cold night. (mid November) They will retreat then to their grotesque larval and hibernation forms.

Until then....

Months.

Months of this onslaught.
Green, red, orange, brown, and every blend thereof will grace my bike and my body.
For now though, just a trickle of green death.

Yeah my helmet gets hammered.

my chest, shoulders, and boots get covered too.

Like I said, this is just the first shot across the bow. I'll post some pictures in the middle of July when I have to use an ice scraper to remove them before I can wash the area they were on.

The big Junebug sized guys smell like vomit when they break open. The medium ones make a huge bloody red splatter and smell like cat piss.

Awesome.

that is the story of every ride here for me....the bugs are everywhere. but on the upside, i dont have to clean them off chrome anymore. :D

Hahahha... I kinda thought that after I posted it! That was a joke people!

Use a non-stick cooking spray. I prefer butter flavored Pam. ;)

AGAIN... I AM ONLY KIDDING!

I hit them with a brush first to grab the loose stuff then I use denatured Al Q. Hall to wipe the rest off.

Repeat daily or suffer permanent bug crust.

Hit up your local Napa auto parts and find something called a bug glub remover.

Its basically a sponge wrapped with a net thing. Works awesome with a lil soapy water. No scratchy... even on paint.

Thanks for the tip man I'll go look for one asap.

These guys are not coming all the way off this time.

What state do you live and ride where the bugs are that bad already ? I'm northeast and they are not that bad here .

I live in the "bottoms" of east Texas, near the Trinity river, and I'm pretty sure that I have taken some low flying airplanes to the chest. The bugs around here get gynormous. I've seen the bugs chasing the birds here....lol

Those bugs look no fun . I live in Maryland , not that bad here . Unless I ride near the water , then it sucks like that .

I hate to say, but windshield for the summer. I know, I know...it will look silly, but I guess function over form would be me for this. I can't stand getting pelted!

I'm in northern California and this area is very agricultural. The land here is ultra fertile on account of an ancient volcano nearby, and a couple millenia of river sediment.

Sooo there's lots of rice fields here and the other main crop is orchards. Peaches, plums, and lots of nuts.

The area is very rich in wildlife and part of that wildlife is BUGS. Forkin loads of em.

I'll be trying to chose a route to work that reduces my exposure to the bugs. That will reduce my insect coating but there's nothing to do to avoid them entirely.

A windshield sounds like a good idea until you realize that it's just more square footage of motorcycle to clean the bugs off of everyday.

You guys think Bugpocolypse is bad? Wait till I show you pics of Frogmaggedon. Hundred thousand thumb-sized frogs coating the road. No way to avoid them. Just got to mow through and try to stay upright as they're quite slippery. Later, you get to remove **** tons of frog DNA from your bike and person.
