I am now working on my spare bike, my Blast, as my XB12 scg is my primary ride. I am replacing the bearings in the back tire and thought I might as well replace the brake pads as they will be coming off for the other repair anyway.
I will be doing front and back pads. My question is what is the difference between the $60 per tire pads and the ones being sold for $20 for a pair of front and back set. What is the difference between the kevlar carbon, kevlar organic, and semi metalic or are they all one in the same. I rarely ride this bike, maybe once a month if that, so I don't want to spend a fortune on the pads so can I buy the cheaper ones for a bike rarely ridden?

I use kevlar organic on the front and I can stoppie with one finger. Semi-metallic are just ****.

Rear really doesn't matter, even semi-metallic will lock up the rear tire without trying.

I have a set of OE pads with low miles and a SpeedBleeder fitting that should fit. I can make you a decent deal, and quality won't be an issue. PM me if you have any interest.

Agreed, WRT the front. But as the OPs have mentioned, on the rear, as long as you've got the same bite as kitchen floor tile, you'll be okay.

JMO but I've bought cheap and expensive pads and although I'm sure there is a difference I never really could tell. I now typically buy the cheapest or at least what appears to be good value.

I've got two Blasts. One has Galfer Green Kevlar/Organic (cost me $10 on ebay) and the other has some cheapy semi-metallic.

I can most definitely feel the difference between the two. The Galfers can stop me in any casual or emergency situation using only my middle finger. Casual stopping on the semi-metallic requires 3 fingers minimum; I don't like taking that much hand off the grip.

When it comes to Brakes Cheap is not a good idea! It is your Life just remember that when anybody is trying to stop and control the Bike at the same time. Lyndall Racing Brake pads are some of the best I use them on the Track due to heat issues
Great for traffic and the Street also..
They don't wear out all that fast and at first will make a slightly bit of noise. But it goes away after a bit.
I have worked on many Bikes in 34 years. The Newer Buells are horrible for warping the Large Rotor on the front
I figured out early on how to keep that from happening. GOOD Materials! No matter what a Bike Rider does Brakes are what keeps you safe. Ride Safe.*Jimi[cool]
