Breather tube

This may sound like a stupid question, but is it normal for a little bit of oil to come out of the breather tube? Or do I have a serious problem?

Not stupid at all. A drop or two is normal. A puddle is a problem...

Normal. Mine was really bad. Can be taken care of with a few parts from Autozone. Check out the "Breather re-route" thread in the Do-It-Yourself section

I have an 09 XB12Ss with Drummer exhaust and modified airbox. Just bought it a few weeks ago. Started reading up on different DIY mods and the "breather-retoute" was the 1st I've done. I've put a couple hundred miles on it since the reroute and pulled the drain plug I made for it yesterday to see how much gunk would come out. Absolutely nothing came out. I've read that it takes several hundred miles to get anything, if any at all. There are some youtube vids that show guys dumping out puddles. Highly doubt puddles are normal. I'm going to say that little to no gunk = good so you're golden!

If you're getting a puddle, there's more of an issue than normal operation. I have an 03 and never notice any drips and I've owned it since new. My local independent mechanic (Moreland's Choppers, Encinitas) who owns a trick 12R has never done the reroute and doesn't put much faith in it. His old 12R and 9S had it and he didn't notice a difference.

If you get a bit of liquid, it depemds on the area you live in, that doesn't mean theres a problem. also moisture in certain areas of any place atmosphere changes will condensate. A good warm or Hot climate year round, may not even need the Reroute. The reroute of your breather Done Right, will help lessen moisture. The crankcase can also do a better job as well.Most usally won't notice any difference in the way the bike operates the breather is just a way to (help) keep the oil clean somewhat between Servicing.

Well, i saw puddles of oil in the bottom of my airbox... As some of the pics i posted tell. I hope that's not an indicator of a bigger problem.
