im in the process of doing the brembo hidden brake mod and need some help.i bought the bracket from american sportsbikes,it looks good but for $78.00 including shipping its not such a good deal,it just a peice of aluminum drilled and tapped wit the only milling in 1 location, realli i could have made it myself any machine shop can in 10 min. but what i am upset about is thats all you get,no instructions,no bolts, nothing.
anyways heres the problem, since there are no bolts i will need to get my own, what kind of bolts do i need? is the caliper mounted soild to the bracket? i would think it should be floating but does not look that way. so far $78.00 for the bracket,$90.00 for the master/caliper/line,$30. for the ebc pads, for something that cost this much with little or no performance value it should not be difficult,so far this is my biggest waste of time and money of any mod so far.

Socket Head Cap Screws, grade 8 steel (not stainless), 5/16-18 x .75". You can get them at Lowes for cheap, just make sure you coat them with antisieze when you install them.

The caliper is mounted solid to the bracket.

It's not really a performance mod, just aesthetic.

Pure aestetics, Een though you are up grading the caliper and MC to gain a noticeable difference you would need to upgrade to a 4 piston caliper, but IMO unless you are racing the bike any brake mod is aesthetic even the ZTL2 with wave rotors. Yeah it might stop better but how much more is the question.

Talked to a couple people with waved rotors, ZTL2 upgrades, and the census is Looks. The stock brakes are great as is, probably the best brake upgrade one can do is simply a higher quality brake pad.

Sucks that ASB hoses you like that with no mounting hardware or instructions, but it makes me wonder if it was because you bought just the bracket and bot the kit, that includes everything?

If you get the kit from ASB (caliper/mount/brake line) you get all the hardware to mount it, and the brembo caliper comes with the pads already installed. If you only get single pieces then you get no hardware (the brembo still has pads installed though).

Xtreme is correct, too. I went from stock rotors/pads and ztl2 to BraKing wave rotors front and back, lyndall gold front pads, and the brembo hidden caliper on the rear. All braking power feels pretty much the same, a little better feel...but no crazy differences.

For me there was no difference in performance in the back with this mod. If I can score a Ducati or Aprilia rear MC for cheep, I might swap that out, but only if I don't have to throw much money at it.

As to the install, just be careful; it's easy to bang up your rim because you're working semi-blind from the opposite side of the swingarm.

i just got the bolts from lowes and im installing it tonight. i dont car too much if i have anymore performance,it stops good enough for me now,im just doing it for looks. it just seemes way too much for that bracket, how can a simple aluminum bracket with no bolts(they are less than $1.00 )and no instructions(also less than $1.00)cosat more than the brake that it holds? i might just install the caliper since its easyier and it does not make much of a difference anyway. i hope it does not make it hard to remove the wheel.

Nope, wheel comes off pretty much the same. Hardest part for me was just bleeding the brake. I should really post a how-to on the install...just been so busy lately!

How does the upgraded rear brake feel? I hate the way the stock brake seems to be all or nothing.

Here's how:

Get the clearances or the angles wrong, and you're scrood. That little curved relief on the inner side? That clears your rotor bolts. Not a DIY piece unless you're good with CNC.

Just sayin'.

i installed it all last night ,it looks great. still think i should have got instructions and bolts with the bracket but it looks great and fit first shot so im happy. i decided to keep it simple and use the buell master and line. it gives the bike a clean look and helps with the already nice lines on the bike.
