Broken bracket...Has anyone had this happen?

For the last few rides I have been smelling a burnt smell and attribute it to the bike being new. Later I heard a small tinkering sound and never gave it much thought. Upon inspection I discovered the clutch cable has been mutilated by the exhaust pipe. The little wire bracket that holds the cable away from exhaust has broken and presto.

has been discussed several times on the forum.

but it's nice to give a picture example ;)

Lefox,

How long has this been going on? My bike is an 08 so if this is a known problem for the Buell bike then why hasn't it been changed on newer bikes?

yea...on our side it's on the new bike.
but from what i gather from bpg, in the u.s. it's only fitting on the '08 uly [confused]

I just got off the phone with my dealer and its covered under warranty. But I have to bring the bike in and for me thats a bit of a pain since i have 6 hours to drive plus a 6-8 hour ferry ride as well. They can't send me the new cable or bracket because they have to install it due to the fact that the clutch cover has to be removed. Guess I am just going to have to bite the bullet on this one and go get it done. I am not really fussy on using zip ties to hold the thing in place and electrical tape around the cable to prevent water from getting in.

I know a guy who had it happen on his 08 firebolt. He actually has broken 2 already. The funny thing is, he is a tech at Harley. So you'd think he'd replace it with the updated version. Maybe Buell just didn't have the update when it happened to him.

The new style comes factory on the new Uly T bike. Its no langer made out of wire. Its made out of 1/8 steel. A little stronger. Check out the other post for more info on the matter.

I got the new one after 2 of the coat hanger style broke in exactly the same place. Warranty paid for it all, plus the melted clutch cable from the first one. The new style is made from stamped steel and seems like it will last.
